Job Description
Stepan is seeking a Formulation Scientist to join our Agricultural Solutions team in Northfield, IL. In this role, you will report to the Agricultural Solutions R&D Manager. Stepan is a leading supplier of products to the agricultural market, and this role will support product development and testing for products used for crop protection, plant and soil health, biological and bio-based ingredients, and more. In this role, you will independently perform work and analyze data to draw conclusions and advance research.
- Develop agricultural formulations used for conventional crop protection, biological crop protection, health & nutrient management, and tank mix adjuvants.
- Evaluate formulations and product performance according to internal, ASTM, and CIPAC methods.
- Prepare large scale formulation samples for customer field trials and evaluation according to specified timelines.
- Contribute to activities across the global agriculture business from support to independent ownership of projects.
- Communicate project results, challenges, and opportunities via timely written and verbal updates and presentations.
- Primary workplace is the Northfield Global Technology Center (office & laboratory environment) with the possibility for remote work per Stepan policy at manager discretion. 10-15% travel anticipated.
Qualifications
- Experience in formulation development; agricultural formulations desired
- Proficiency with basic computer skills (MS Office) and data analysis techniques.
- Proficiency with the scientific method to design, execute and assess projects.
- Must keep an organized, up-to-date laboratory notebook and other documentation.
- Participate in safety/waste programs and steadfastly adhere to policies/standards.
- Some physical activity (walking, standing, moving heavy pails, etc) is expected.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or related science field is required.
