SUMMARY:

Facilitates food service operations with Child Development Services Managers. Provides program oversight. Responsible for monitoring all food service, expenditures, eligibility, centralized purchasing of food and non-food items related to CCFP food services operation, and oversees and provides training as needed for food menus planning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include the following.

• Develops, implements a system for providing a high quality feeding and nutrition program appropriate to the needs of the pre-school child, infants and toddlers.
• Facilitates the development of a written plan for the Nutrition Program based on the identified needs of children served and their families.
• Monitors the assessment of the nutritional status of children from available health records and a nutrition and dietary history.
• Provides parents training on meeting special nutrition needs of children.
• Maintains knowledge of local, state and federal child care licensing and sanitation standards, and monitors programs compliance with standards.
• Identifies the needs of food service staff thru program monitoring activities. Provides T/TA to meet performance requirements of CCFP in areas such as budgeting, food purchasing, storage, sanitation, food preparation and service that fosters work simplification methods.
• Conducts training of food service personnel or provide the competent resources available in the community.
• Provides resource materials and methods to Head Start program operations administration to be used by teaching staff for the integration of food related activities into the total education program and demonstrates how mealtime can be used to meet the developmental and socialization needs of children.
• Monitors work plans to ensure CCFP program compliance with HS Performance Standards.
• Stays abreast of current educational trends to enhance knowledge and analyze trends in the areas of food preparation and nutrition.
• Assists parents and staff in becoming knowledgeable and aware in the following areas: interpretation and explanation of the roll of nutrition and food play in the child?s development and learning abilities; selection and preparation of food to meet family needs by a wide variety of ways appropriate to resources, culture and preferences of family; home management and consumer education.
• Engages in team management and development with staff and consultants.
• Identifies community resources for training of staff, working with handicapped children, nutrition education of parents and staff, meeting health and sanitation standards.
• Assists staff in providing opportunities for involvement of parents in the nutrition component.
• Assists staff in establishing a procedure for communicating information about menus, nutrition activities and child?s nutritional progress (eating patterns, acceptance of new foods, etc).
• Plans and prepares monthly menus for breakfast, lunch and snacks.
• Orders food and supplies from appropriate wholesale (retailing, if wholesalers are not available) sources and any necessary services.
• Provides the necessary tool for inventory of stock of food, supplies and commodities on hand or available to food services staff.
• Maintains complete monthly records on all aspects of food purchasing and service as required for special food service.
• Plans food service in coordination with total scope of program.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
