Title: Food Service Worker

Reports to: Y Café Manager

Job Summary:

The Food Service Worker’s main function is to prepare and serve Café participates daily and Bright Beginnings participates.

General Responsibilities:

• Provide well balance meals as planned out by the Youth and Family Director
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, outside area, restrooms, storage closets and patio area.
• Cleaning all the equipment and supplies used daily
• Fill out paperwork provided by the state of Missouri Food Program
• Attend food safety class
• Open/ Close out money drawer each shift
• Attend all scheduled meetings
• Wear assigned uniforms
• Must have high level of energy and patience
• High Christian morals and be a role model for all participates
• Use positive language and attitude to children and participants

Job Duties:

• Supervise and monitor the safety of children
• Cook meals as directed by the food program standards
• Filling out daily food logs and food count sheets
• Serve items at the correct temperature instructed by the Health Dept.
• Purchase items needed to complete meal, if needed.
• Inventory all items weekly
• Make items in café as needed, stock items
• Serve items in café to members, staff and guests
• Serve children for Summer Camp, School Out Day, Bright Beginnings, and any future programs needed.
• To participate in the YMCA special events
• Clean equipment in and outside area as listed on cleaning list.
• Clean all restrooms, patio, trashcans, ice machine, cold case, milk cooler, windows and anything else that needs to be cleaned in the Café and food service area
• Picking up trash that has not made it to the trashcan inside and outside
• Enforce all YMCA policies
• Inform the children of the core values of the YMCA in positive way when disciplining a child.
• Any other responsibilities assigned by the Manager.

Skills, Education, and Experience

• Maintain an up-to-date CPR, First Aid, AED certification
• Strong communication skills and organization skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task
• Be punctual, show up on time for your shift
• Project professional appearance
• High level of energy and creativity required
• Commercial baking/cooking experience required
• Ability to follow verbal or written direction
• Must have knowledge of commercial food preparation, sanitation, and preparation
• Must attend food training yearly and keep food certification up to date.

Physical Qualifications:

Speaking, hearing, seeing, reading, writing, typing, lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, standing for at least 8 hours.

Working Conditions:

Food Service Workers will be working with members, staff and their children daily. They will be working outside and inside depending on the day. They will be standing for most of the shift preparing food. They will be cleaning, help to keep the room organized and clean at all times.

Restrictions:

• Food Service Workers are prohibited from using cell phones, iPods, headphones or any other distracting devices while on shift.
• Prohibited to eat while they are working they can eat after all children have been served.
• Required to still pay for all meals they eat while working
• Must wear tennis shoes and gloves while working.
• All employees are required to work at least 8 hours per month to maintain complimentary membership status.
• All other guidelines must be followed in accordance with the Employee Handbook.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $12.00 - $12.50 per hour
