The Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove (WVHUG) is seeking a full-time Food Service Assistant 2, to join the Dietary Services team. The Home is a 24/7/365 long-term care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional healthcare services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. Our facility is in Racine County, a short drive from Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, and other key locations in southeastern Wisconsin.
Sign-On Bonus of $2000 for eligible new hires who agree to remain in the job for one year. $1000 will be paid in the employee's first paycheck and $1000 will be paid when the employee completes a probationary period.

Position Summary
Come join the dedicated team that serves nutritious and delicious meals to Wisconsin Veterans who call our facility Home.
Under general supervision, the Food Service Aide interprets diet orders on tray lines following food safety and sanitation standards. This position also assists with quantity food production, performs breakfast or grill cooking, transports food carts between kitchen and servery areas, and works catered functions. The employee is an important part of the Dietary Services team.

Salary Information
Starting wage is $16.18 per hour with additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.
Sign-on bonus of $2000 for eligible new hires.
The position is eligible for an attractive employee benefits package.
The position is in pay schedule-range 03-09. For current State employees, pay on hire will be set following the Wisconsin Compensation Plan.
The position is not represented by a bargaining unit.
Job Details
Job duties include moving carts weighing an average of 500 pounds safely through hallways; moving equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance; moving equipment and supplies weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance; and performing medium to heavy manual labor.
The position works a standard 10-hour shift including weekends on a rotating basis and requires working overtime as needed.
Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.
Employment in the position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.
Employees at this healthcare facility are required to provide documentation of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by date of hire. Reasonable accommodation requests for exemptions to this requirement will be considered on a case-by-case basis in accordance with applicable law.
A 12-month probationary period may be required.
Qualifications
In their resume, a minimally qualified applicant will describe their experience:
- Preparing a product (e.g., measuring/counting quantity, ensuring quality, stocking, labeling and dating, prepping supplies, using work tools, following production schedules, working stations, tallying, making a salad, plating a meal, maintaining clean and safe area, setting up and taking down equipment, loading and unloading, following posted instructions, etc.)
Additional minimum and preferred experience that will be assessed at a later stage in the selection process are:
- Reading and following posted instructions; and
- Performing food service functions; and/or
- Following sanitation standards and safety controls; and/or
- Communicating as a member of a team
