BASIC FUNCTIONS: The Food Services Manager is responsible for all areas of the in-house food services at Home Sweet Home Ministries, including daily preparation and serving of meals, food procurement for both the Bread for Life Co-Op and the Dining Center, and supervision of all food service workers, paid and unpaid.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Directs all activities related to maintaining a quality food service program.

  • Assures that three nutritional meals per day are prepared and served seven days per week. Provides general supervision of menu planning, meal preparation and service. Plans and executes special functions, including meal preparation for the Thanksgiving meal deliveries, meetings, and other events as needed.

  • Plans and posts a weekly menu cycle to ensure maximum cost-effectiveness, giving due consideration to balanced nutritious meals with sufficient variety to maintain an attractive, quality hot meal program.

  • Procures all foodstuffs and related products, including paper goods, plus all other supplies necessary for the operation of the kitchen.

  • Oversees procurement of all food that comes into Home Sweet Home Ministries, including both the Bread for Life Co-Op and the Dining Center to assure that both ministries are well stocked with needed items.

  • Maintains a safe, healthy and sanitized work environment. Provides ongoing training and supervision in areas of kitchen cleanliness, food handling, and safety issues.

  • In collaboration with the Director of Client Services, prepares an annual budget for the Dining Center food service area. Monitors all purchases and acquisitions of foodstuffs and supplies throughout the year expensed to Food Services to ensure adherence to the budget.

  • Supervises and trains all persons assigned to work in the kitchen.

  • Solicits donations from community food establishments that would directly benefit the food service program, including both the Bread for Life Co-Op and Dining Center. Ensures timely recognition and thanks to donors to the food service program.

  • Facilitates the loading and unloading of food and related supplies.

  • Compiles statistical reports as required, including all necessary CACFP documentation.

  • Mission-oriented with values in harmony with those of Home Sweet Home Ministries.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive or controversial subjects with tact, kindness, and professionalism.

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant commercial food service experience.

  • Maintain a valid Illinois Food Manager Certificate.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare nutritionally balanced, attractive, tasty meals with due consideration to cost-effectiveness.

  • Valid Illinois drivers license.

  • Demonstrated ability to train and supervise others.

  • High school education or equivalent.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.

  • Actively involved in the Christian Faith.
