First Place Kids (FPK) provides families who are actively unhoused with access to a low-barrier, high-quality family programming. FPK provides a therapeutic space in order to mitigate the immediate detrimental effects of trauma while helping children and families gain the skills and connections needed to transition towards stability
Position Title: FPK Teacher
Reports to: FPK Program Director
Agency: St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County
Program: First Place Kids Preschool Promise
Location: 1995 Amazon Parkway Eugene, OR
FTE: 40 hr/week
Wage: $18/hr
Hours: 7am-3:30pm Monday-Friday
Programmatic Responsibilities:
- Hold credential of Teacher within Certified Childcare Center regulations.
- Support Head Teacher in the implementation of preschool classroom rhythm which includes small and large group activities based on life skills, free play, circle time, outdoor play, social/emotional skill development, meals and effective transitions between activities.
- Demonstrate and maintain principles and practices of trauma-informed care and positive discipline in all programmatic services.
- Supervise and monitor children at all times which includes responding appropriately to crisis or emergency situations that may occur.
Volunteer, Parent, and Collogue Work:
- Develop positive relationships with parents.
- Attend weekly FPK Staff Meetings.
- Attend SVDP YFS Staff Meetings as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Act as a Mandatory Reporter in accordance to abuse reporting laws.
- Maintain appropriate documentation, as assigned by FPK Program Director.
- Conduct job responsibilities in consideration of professional boundaries, confidentiality, and strength-based interactions.
Qualifications and Skills
Required:
- A state or nationally recognized credential related to preschool care
OR
- At least one year of qualifying teaching experience, with at least one year as a teacher, in a Certified Child Care Center or comparable group care program, in the care of preschoolers
OR
- Documentation of attaining Oregon Registry Step level 8
- Ability to adhere to agency philosophies regarding curriculum and safety.
- Ability to supervise preschool children and ensure a safe environment. This includes responding to emergent needs of a busy classroom and outdoor play areas, including the physical ability to move quickly and respond to children who are very active.
- Ability to interact with children at their eye level; kneeling, stooping, and bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen (including marijuana).
- Currently enrolled in, or ability to be enrolled in Central Background Registry.
Preferred:
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
