GENERAL PURPOSE
This entry level embedded systems engineer will have a strong foundation in digital design, programming skills, experience with FPGAs, Linux proficiency, and basic knowledge of circuit design and PCB design. In this role, they will work on FPGA/SoC based embedded projects for cutting edge aerospace LiDAR applications, including design, implementation, and verification of FPGA design, as well as analog and digital circuit design and PCB layout. This position does not immediately require a security clearance, but applicants must have the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and implement FPGA SoC designs according to requirements and in support of system architecture development.
  • Test and debug FPGA designs to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and develop project plans.
  • Responsible for the various analysis and documentation tasks necessary for product deployment.
  • Perform detailed analysis of system performance.
  • Develop and generate test plans for board-level environments.
  • Document designs and test results.
  • Stay up to date with the latest technologies and trends in FPGA and SoC development.
  • Configure and maintain Linux-based development environments for FPGA projects.
  • Design and develop circuits and PCB layouts for FPGA-based systems
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Involvement in writing product requirement, derivation of low-level requirements, requirement traceability
  • Operate within a change control and configuration management environment

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY
Required:
  • Strong understanding of digital design principles and experience with HDL programming (VHDL or Verilog)
  • Familiarity with the Xilinx Vivado FPGA development tool
  • Basic knowledge of control loops, state machines, and signal processing algorithms and techniques
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience using MS Office suite
  • Basic knowledge of circuit design and PCB layout tools such as Altium Design or Mentor Graphics PADS.
  • This position does not immediately require a security clearance, but applicants must have the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
Preferred:
  • Experience with FPGA-based embedded systems
  • Familiarity with Xilinx Ultrascale+, MPSoCs or RFSoCs is highly desired
  • Proficiency in Linux operating system, including experience with command line interface and shell scripting
  • Knowledge of different communication buses
  • Proficiency with C and/or C++ programming languages
  • Experience with a firmware development process: Derivation of requirements, design, verification, and integration testing
  • Experience implementing low-level interfaces to ADCs, DACs or other ICs (Using SPI, I2C or similar interfaces)
  • Familiarity with hardware timing constraints
  • Experience with integrating Xilinx IP cores and custom logic into the SoC architecture
  • Experience with Computer Aided Electrical Design tools in support of accurate schematic capture, BOM creation, and timing analysis
EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field required
EXPERIENCE
  • BS + 0-3 years of experience in relevant job or research positions, or
  • MS and 0-1 years of experience in relevant job or research positions, or
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Office, Lab
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
  • Handling lab equipment and products (moderate lifting)
