What will you do as a Field Service Engineer at Northern Defense Industries LLC?
A Field Service Engineer (FSE):
- Provides technical field service engineering support to external customers, as well as to internal design and development teams with a strong background in surveillance sensors (radar, camera, etc.) and associated command and control interfaces.
- Plans, schedules and coordinates detailed phases of engineering and technical support services required in the installation, operation and maintenance of equipment including, but not limited to, complex camera and radar surveillance systems, communications and networking equipment, power equipment and supporting information technology.
- May develop, maintain and conduct training programs on maintenance and operations. An FSE consults with personnel across multiple disciplines to troubleshoot root cause and resolve problems in system operation.
- Travels to field sites located both CONUS and OCONUS to perform all of the above. Domestic and international travel will be required on a program-by-program basis.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct field engineering support services at customer facilities during installation, integration, and verification of products. Provide ongoing follow-up service after deployment to train customers as needed on installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
- Respond to customer service inquiries and follow-up with proper and concise written records or reports to appropriate stakeholders.
- Develop plans to resolve technical issues and problems with products/sensors where necessary. Make periodic visits to customer sites to resolve technical problems and maintain good customer communication.
- Recommend product modifications to improve reliability, performance and maintainability of equipment and systems.
- Support business units, marketing and engineering teams, as required, to assess customer requirements, provide technical support for demonstrations, and assist in development of technical support proposals.
- Provide test support for engineering development projects.
- Minimum Job Requirements
- Specific industry experience, including experience with complex camera and radar surveillance systems, communications and networking equipment, power equipment and supporting information technology, is strongly preferred.
- Must be able to complete a favorably adjudicated DHS background investigation, as well as obtain a favorably adjudicated DoD Secret level clearance.
Desired Education/Experience/Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS), preferably in a technical field and minimum of three (3) years proven Department of Defense (DoD) experience either as a government civilian, military officer, or defense contractor.
- Excellent briefing, writing, communication, administrative, and organizational skills.
- Experience using computers for a variety of tasks.
- Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently, under stringent timelines.
- Capture experience to include planning and proposal writing.
- Current DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain and hold a DoD Secret clearance.
- Problem-solving skills, operate independently with limited supervision and feedback, be a strong team player and have the ability to establish solid working relationships with technical staff members and peers within the division as well as our external Government customers.
- Experience with C4ISR systems; hardware/software fabrication; vehicle/platform system integration; and/or test and evaluation is a plus.
- Recognized tower climber certification or willingness to become certified.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
