Job Description
The Farmers Market Manager is responsible for the development, on-site management and operations of the seasonal farmers market.
This part time position will work approximately 15-20 hours a week from May – September and 10 hours a week from October – April. The outdoor farmers market takes place on Tuesday evenings from 3 – 7 p.m., June – September at Ridgedale Commons. Additionally, indoor markets are held the second Saturday of the month, November – March, at the Minnetonka Community Center.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Manages market site and market day activities.
- Oversees annual vendor application/recruitment process, focusing on establishing a good product mix, layout, and strong vendor participation.
- Develops, communicates and enforces farmers market rules, procedures, and activities according to market guidelines, as well as appropriate local, county, and state laws related to farmers markets. Works with vendors to ensure safe food handling.
- Communicates proactively with vendors on a regular basis at the farmers market as well as through market-related correspondence. Responds to customer inquiries and addresses customer concerns.
- Researches, select and manages musical performers and other market activities and utilizes resources in the community to support the success of the farmers market. Works to maintain and deepen relationships with community partners, sponsors and institutions.
- Works with Finance staff to manage market token and voucher programs.
- Works cooperatively with Recreation Services, Public Works, Communications, Finance and Administration staff on Farmers Market matters.
- Handles grant management and reporting and keeps abreast of grants and outside resource opportunities.
- Provides input on budget considerations related to materials, supplies and equipment.
- Writes routine correspondence and reports such as memos, inquiries and attendance or activity reports.
- Provides direction to the farmers market assistant.
Qualifications
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- A commitment to and belief in the organization's shared values.
- One year of work or volunteer experience in planning/managing community-related events and/or working effectively with the public.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
- Possession of a valid Minnesota driver’s license.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
