We are a small, family farming operation currently growing soybeans, wheat, corn, and grain sorghum. We are at 500 acres and growing and need to add to our team in order to accomplish our goals on the farm.

Expectations for a Career in Agriculture
Farming is very much a seasonal and weather-dependent career. We definitely believe in the phrase "make hay while the sun shines" and we put in 10-12 hour days when the season calls for it and the weather allows it (spring planting, fall harvesting, and some weeks in the summer). We continue to take soil samples and work on equipment throughout the winter, but winter is also a time for rest, renewal,
family vacations, hunting, etc.

Schedule
A typical work week is Monday through Saturday but, being a small farm, most weeks we are able to adjust the schedule with enough heads up.

This position needs to be full-time, but we would be willing to work with the right person if they are only able to offer part-time hours to begin with.

Career Opportunity
Ideally, this position will transition into a salaried career position with retirement benefits, bonus pay, and annual raises.

Location
Our home is in Edenton and most of our farmland is in Tyrrell County. Most days you will meet in Edenton and drive a company vehicle to wherever the day's tasks take us.

Job Details
This job requires both physical strength and strong critical thinking skills. Job duties include:

• Possessing a drivers license and reliable transportation to get to Edenton each workday
• Driving a manual transmission company vehicle between farm locations
• Driving an ATV for various farm tasks (like pulling soil samples or driving between farms)
• Driving a manual transmission dump truck
• Operating a tractor and various implements
• Making small mechanic repairs, changing a tire, etc
• Walking through growing crops (sometimes chest high) to 'scout' or look for insects, weeds, and diseases
• Using an iPhone/iPad for farm mapping software
• Working outside in all weather conditions (heat, cold, etc)
• Lifting 50+ pounds (such as pouring a bag of soybean seed into a planter)
• Carrying oneself with dignity and representing the farm and our company well throughout the community
• Organizing and maintaining a neat space (shop, vehicle, etc)
• Keeping a neat personal appearance

Please note: previous experience in agriculture and the tasks listed above is highly preferred, but not a deal breaker. We are more than willing to put in the hours to train you if you're willing to learn from us, research on your own, study, and get up to speed quickly.
