English, Lucas, Priest and Owsley, LLP (ELPO) is looking for an experienced Paralegal to join our Family Law Practice Group. This Paralegal position will assist attorneys by providing clerical and research support services including but not limited to: document preparation and review, research, fact checking, and trial preparation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Meets with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects
  • Drafts legal documents including routine pleadings and motions, affidavits, and interrogatories; files motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures—all under attorney supervision and review
  • Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provides written analysis to attorneys
  • Serve as liaison between clients and attorneys, assisting with the full client-management lifecycle
  • Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items
  • Prepares and reviews written correspondence
  • Assists attorneys with trial preparation, which may include attending trials and hearings
  • Assists with tracking hours spent on specific cases
  • Performs other related duties and gives general support to attorneys as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment
  • Self-motivated to accomplish tasks
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Knowledge of other software used in a legal office (e.g., DocuSign, Excel, etc.)

Education and Experience:

  • At least 2 years’ experience within a law firm required
  • Some Family Law related experience preferred
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal studies or related field preferred
  • Paralegal certificate preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

Pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour
