Chewonki Foundation is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Facilities team. Experience within the facilities field is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate.

Chewonki is a school, camp, and environmental education organization based in Wiscasset, Maine, that inspires transformative growth, teaches appreciation and stewardship of the natural world, and challenges people to build thriving, sustainable communities throughout their lives.

Starting Rate of Pay: $18.50-$20.00/Hour

• Schedule (hours and weeks): Full-time; Year-Round

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Daily maintenance of facilities, vehicles and grounds could include:
• Ongoing maintenance of structures and systems
• Snow response, plowing and shoveling, and sanding
• Capital improvements and repair projects
• Maintenance of heating and renewable energy systems
• Public water system maintenance and testing
• Support for emergency situations, e.g. power outages
• Tree care and firewood processing
• Painting and drywall repair
• Maintain composting toilet systems

• Small engine repair and troubleshooting, including routine maintenance
• Logistical problem solving including work site coordination and program specific needs
• Maintain a safe work environment with a lens of risk management
• Support an inclusive work environment
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• The desire to learn and adapt to changing conditions (technology, ideas, community norms) is critical
• Understanding of mechanical systems and basic trade skills; plumbing, electrical, heating, mechanical, carpentry, heavy equipment operation, painting, preferred
• Able to accomplish strenuous tasks in all weather conditions
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
• Flexibility and ability to work varied schedule including overnight and weekends, occasionally in remote locations, and on-call responsibilities

REQUISITES

• Maintain a valid driver’s license approved by Chewonki’s insurance carrier
• Background check including fingerprinting in accordance to Maine Department of Education
• Ongoing classes and training, including chainsaw, driving, Maine Safetyworks, etc
• The Chewonki Foundation requires that 100% of staff are vaccinated against COVID-19, as allowed for by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Proof of completed COVID-19 vaccination will be required upon acceptance of a job offer.
