Expected Start – Mid-August, with Orientation prior to the first Football game scheduled for 8/31/2023.

Payrate: $9.00/hour; part-time, hourly non-exempt


Position Summary:

The Facilities and Events Student Assistants are responsible for assisting with field and facility preparation for Football, Men’s & Women’s Basketball, Soccer, Track & Field, Rowing, Swimming, Volleyball and various special events, and general game day operations.


Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics:

  • Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics and NCAA policies and procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules and procedures.
  • Foster cooperative working relationships with immediate supervisor and staff members who work within or outside his/her work unit.
  • Support the athletics departmental goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics, and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values.
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and working with other staff members.
  • Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office and on the road;
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Assist with overall setup of event space for games and special events;
  • Operate various gameday roles and positions including but not limited to; the Football Shuttle Cart Service, and Fan Information Booth, Stadium Roamer, Fan/Staff Liaison;
  • Post necessary signage on specified areas for events including: entry signage, team logos, timing sheets, directional diagrams, etc.;
  • Assist in delivery of game day meals to proper locations;
  • Meet and host officials and visiting teams;
  • Escort game personnel to and from the area of play;
  • Assist with post-event tear down;
  • Maintain a positive attitude and enthusiasm toward performing job duties and in working with other staff, vendors, officials, student-athletes, and the general public;
  • Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics, and NCAA policies and procedures;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Facilities and Event Management staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Full-time student at the University of Kansas in good academic standing;
  • Be team-oriented, intrinsically motivated, and able to handle a fast-paced working environment;
  • Ability to problem-solve and have a solution focused approach to challenges and improvements;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work most home football and basketball games;
  • Ability and willingness to work long and varied hours including nights, weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree seeking in Sports Management, or related academic field;
  • Ability and willingness to work in outdoor elements for long periods of time;
  • Federal Work Study eligible;
  • Ability to maintain a valid state issued Driver’s License.

Work Environment

This job operates in both a professional office environment and outside at KAI related events, including inclement weather. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to: cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This position may require frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; and working in all weather conditions.

Travel

Moderate local travel is expected for this position; to campus locations such as Rock Chalk Park, and others in the Lawrence, Kansas area.

Hours of Work

This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the position. Early morning, evening and weekend work maybe required. Average work hours per week may not exceed 20 hours, or 999 hours per year.
