Qualifications: Master's degree in social work, business or comparable required. Minimum of 10 years' experience in social service setting. Reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Position oversees a non-profit child welfare agency with a yearly budget of 14M, 150 employees, covers a 20-county area including 8 locations in the northern Illinois area.

Required to oversee all aspects of the agency including Fiscal, Human Resources, DHS programs with a large emphasis on child welfare.

Experience: Minimum of ten years executive leadership experience with increasingly responsible supervisory or management roles and a comprehensive working knowledge of not for profit management, child welfare with emphasis in foster care , youth services, juvenile justice or direct service to other client groups.

At least five years direct experience with and a thorough understanding of raising charitable funds from government, foundation and/or individual donors. Extensive experience with federal and other government funding programs required.

Demonstrated leadership and management skills and a track record of career growth and success.

Sound political sense; experience with the political process very helpful.

Excellent written and oral communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.

Ability to recognize and communicate strategic opportunities; to translate strategies into actions; and to execute plans effectively by leading or guiding staff or working independently if required.

Demonstrated ability to provide dynamic leadership and to inspire staff, volunteers, youth and families, funders, and the community

Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership to ensure that YSB meets the purpose and goals of its mission. Engages both Board and staff in review and renewal of the mission, and implements the mission. Communicates the mission, goals and long range plans to Board members, staff members, and other stakeholders, including funders and donors.
  • Plans and manages for the operations of YSB’s Board of Directors, supporting Board member recruitment, training, development and engagement in the work of YSB. Ensures smooth operation of all Board and committee meetings, all Board events, and clear and complete communication with members of the Board. Reviews with the Board the By-laws, policies, and all other documents related to the oversight of YSB, and makes timely and appropriate recommendations to the Board of Directors for necessary changes, to ensure the stability and efficiency of YSB, and reflecting changes that are appropriate to its operations.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to all program functions and operations. Develops and executes policies that will achieve the mission and goals of YSB. Ensures the organization develops and is managed according to an annual budget. Undertakes regular and thorough program and personnel reviews, performance measurements, and financial analyses of all YSB programs and projects and recommends changes to improve productivity, efficiency and use of resources. Gives leadership to annual planning process at staff and Board levels, and periodically initiates in-depth planning and analysis to support growth and improve allocation of resources.
  • Represents YSB to the press, government, the public, potential funders and donors, and others as needed.
  • Maintains timely and thorough knowledge of the fields of child welfare, juvenile justice, youth services, community development, and trends within the nonprofit sector that are relevant to the work of YSB, to ensure that YSB continues to respond to the needs of children and families.
  • Develops and leads an effective executive team. Performs performance evaluations of executive team and other direct reports and performs required personnel actions.
  • Develops, adapts and communicates personnel policies; ensures that personnel policies reflect the values and beliefs of YSB and incorporate current legal requirements.
  • Plans and manages for the ongoing development of YSB programs through diverse funding, best practices, and cutting edge ethical conduct.
  • Represents YSB to funders and colleague agencies; maintains excellent relationships with external parties, including accrediting and licensing bodies.
  • Oversees the work of all YSB offices.
  • Maintains required job knowledge and skills and core professional competencies. Attends and participates in required educational programs and staff meetings. Seeks training and professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • The strategic goals set annually by the organization are achieved.
  • The Board of Directors is managed to the satisfaction of its members.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $125,000.00 per year
