Position Description:

Estimators support the senior and lead estimators in the development of subcontractor costs and estimates by doing trade partner outreach, quantitative take-offs, document organization and research. They develop estimates for all Hensel Phelps self-performed work. Estimators are responsible for the development and monitoring of trade partner scopes of work and self-perform pricing with the architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.

Position Qualifications:

• A 4-year degree in civil or structural engineering, architecture or construction management, or six years of related experience without a degree.
• Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in estimating on large commercial construction projects.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Possess good communications skills and be detail oriented.
• Experience in computer skills and software programs such as On-Screen Take-Off, Building Connected, SAGE and Assemble.
• Early learning of format and procedures.
• Good Excel skills.
• Able to survey building specialties, carpentry, millwork, and some finishes.
• Able to perform minor pricing studies (Building Specialties, Rough Carpentry).
• Beginning to show 3D thinking capability.
• Understanding of subcontractor/supplier relationships to the ongoing success of Hensel Phelps.

Essential Duties:

• Maintain company standards and ethics.
• Read and understand plans and specifications.
• Prepare a thorough take-off of quantities for scope of work.
• Thoroughly review subcontractor pricing and prepare a comprehensive bid tab.
• Read and understand plans and specifications for major/complex projects.
