Estimator Job at Babcock & Wilcox
The Estimator 1 will partner closely with Proposal Managers, Superintendents and Construction Managers, and other business areas as required to assist in the preparation of construction cost estimates. Coordinating amongst various departments requires this individual to utilize effective time management skills to provide accurate and timely information.
- Prepares manhours estimate based on estimating book rates.
- Reads drawings to determine workscope and performs takeoffs to develop quantities to be used in the estimate.
- Obtains craft labor rates from the union halls.
- Works with Operations to include appropriate Supervision and Indirect labor into the estimate
- Assists in the preparation of RFQ’s to obtain subcontract pricing
- Assists in the preparation of RFQ’s to obtain construction material pricing
- Develops price approval request and rates for extra work.
- Attends cost review meetings and price review meetings.
- Work with Proposal and Project Management, Accounting, Purchasing, Scheduling, Construction, and other functions on details, quantities/weights and specifics of scope and cost estimates.
- Function as a member of the proposal team.
- Participate in cost review meetings and pricing approval meetings.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associates degree required
- 1-2 years experience in Estimating, or equivalent experience in Construction, Engineering, Purchasing and/or related functions.
- Excellent Microsoft Excel and Office Suite skills
- Ability to read drawings
