Background on Southbridge Public Schools:

Southbridge Public Schools serve approximately 2,200 students in six schools. The district is presently undergoing extensive turnaround at all levels, with the assistance of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This creates unique opportunities for teachers and students. One example is a long-term partnership with the University of Connecticut to develop Southbridge Schools to be a national demonstration site for successful implementation of PBIS strategies. Additionally, the district is the recipient of a number of significant grants that allow Secondary School redesign, curriculum enhancements, improved culture and climate and afterschool opportunities for students. REQUIREMENTS:

• An Associate's Degree from an accredited college strongly preferred
• Proficient in both English and Spanish in all forms of classroom communication
• Ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers
• Cultural sensitivity and interest in working with a diverse student population
• Able to communicate effectively in English with building administrators, teachers and support staff, students, and parents

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Provide ESL and content area tutoring to Limited English Proficient students in small groups or one-to-one under supervision of the ESL, classroom and / or content area teacher
• Meet with classroom teachers / grade level team on a regular basis for joint curriculum planning and student assessment
• Contribute to the decisions of the Language Assessment Team
• Communicate with parents as needed
• Attend professional development trainings for tutors
