Job Description: Equipment Operator / Vessel Loader

Essential Job Functions:

Responsible for the safe operation of heavy construction equipment in support of construction and maintenance activities. Also, loads and unloads and moves material within the plant or near the facility.

May be required to work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by supervision.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Ability to demonstrate good work practices through compliance and support of all corporate and site safety and health rules and guidelines.

Ability to read and comprehend work orders, instructions and reports.

Ability to perform an “first use” inspection of the equipment to be utilized.

Ability to convey material from storage or work sites to designated areas.

Ability to perform rigging skills to secure lifting attachments to equipment, containers and materials to be moved.

Ability to stack or assemble materials into bundles and bands them together.

Ability to lift heavy objects by operating forklifts, loaders, hoists or manual lifting.

Ability to shovel loose material into hoppers, buckets, wheel barrels or trucks.

Ability to make adjustments or repairs to belts or rollers.

Ability to secure barges, trucks or rail cars into unloading or receiving positions.

Ability to move bulk material to and from docked barges, trucks or rails to other areas.

Ability to place or correctly position chutes, spouts and conveyors over docked barges, trucks or rails to receive or unload material.

Ability to record barge, truck and rail identifying information such as weight, volume, drafts of material loaded or unloaded.

Ability to inspect, clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.

Ability to maintain and make minor mechanical repairs to physical structure of facility.

Ability to clean and organize work history.

Agility Functions:

Ability to apply common sense understanding and general mechanical aptitude while performing daily task.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk frequently. The employee is occasionally required to climb, maintain balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl about machinery, ladders, catwalks and scaffolding. Ability to grasps items with hands and reaching with one hands and arms while performing their duties. Must be able to talk, hear, feel and smell. Employee must be able to regularly lift 25 to 50-pound items and occasionally move or shift 100- pound items. Employee may be required to work in cramped and uncomfortable positions and must be able to wear respiratory equipment when required. Environmental Conditions:

Employee must be able to work in a mostly outdoors environment that may include extreme hot, cold, and rainy conditions. Environment will also be noisy because of rotating machinery and equipment and employee will frequently be exposed to fumes or airborne particles from which respiratory protection masks are provided when needed.
