Equipment Operator (Potholer/Directional Drill) Job at Henkels & McCoy

We are currently seeking Pothole/Vac Operators and Directional Drill Operators to join our Telecommunication team in Lakewood, CO. The Pothole Operators will be responsible, but not limited to, the following:
Major Job Elements of a Potholer/Vac Truck Operator
- Responsible for the successful completion of potholing, daylighting, rig cleanings, etc.
- Operate Hydrovac trucks and/or vac trailers in a safe and professional manner
- Locating underground utilities to verify depths.
- Clear shots for direction drills to install underground conduit.
- Complete all required paperwork properly and within set time lines.
- Perform pre and post-trip inspections, as well as routine maintenance.
- Read and interpret plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities.
- Carrying out minor maintenance and repairs, including lubrication and cleaning.
- Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
Qualifications of a Potholer/Vac Truck Operator
- Valid Class A CDL
- Preferred to have at least 2 years of potholing experience as an operator.
- Knowledge of basic underground utilities.
- Must be comfortable digging and being around existing working underground utilities.
- This position requires significant time doing manual labor functions, walking on uneven ground, working in tight spaces and in general, being overall physically demanding.
- Skills in operating heavy equipment and machines proficiently and safely
- Ability to use time and equipment efficiently in order to complete projects on time
- Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment
- Must perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Must follow safety guidelines and wear personal protective equipment at all times.
- Able to work up to 6 day weeks in an all-weather environment is required.
- Must pass a customer required background check.
- Must be willing to travel.
- Must speak the English language fluently and clearly to communicate with the team.
Major Job Elements of a Directional Drilling
- Setting up and operating highly specialized directional drills.
- Read and interpret plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities.
- Monitoring electronic guidance and locating equipment during the drilling phases.
- Adding or removing drill rods.
- Carrying out minor maintenance and repairs, including lubrication and cleaning.
- Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
- Avoiding damage to existing underground facilities.
- Maintaining a constant focus on operating in a safe working environment.
- Ideal qualifying drill locators will have knowledge and experience with locating equipment.
- Verify all underground mark outs and utilities
Qualifications of a Directional Drilling
- Have a working knowledge of underground construction.
- Preferred to have at least 2 years of Direction Drilling experience as the operator. Additional operator experience for backhoe or excavator is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license. CDL Class A with Tanker Endorsement is preferred.
- Experience with Ditch Witch Sub-Site Tracker, Vermeer F2 or equal trackers.
- Must be comfortable digging or drilling around existing working underground utilities.
- This position requires significant time doing manual labor functions, walking on uneven ground, working in tight spaces and in general, being overall physically demanding.
- Must perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Must follow safety guidelines and wear personal protective equipment at all times.
- Able to work up to 6 day weeks in an all-weather environment is required.
- Must successfully operate the equipment to the satisfaction of the construction supervision. Equipment operator certification(s), preferred.
- Must pass a customer required background check.
- Must be willing to travel.
- Must speak the English language fluently and clearly to communicate with the team.
