Equine and Farm Animal Care Manager Job at Houston SPCA
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Responsible for all essential functions of the Farm and Equine Animal Department.
- Hire, train and schedule employees to meet Farm and Equine shelter needs.
- Instruct, train and assist staff with their duties, use of equipment, and materials in assigned areas.
- Oversee daily Farm and Equine shelter operations for two properties (approximately 40 miles apart), with upwards of 60 equine in care, as well as farm animals to include ruminants, poultry, and cattle.
- Assisting staff veterinarian with various procedures and follow up treatments e.g. post op treatment, wound management, etc.
- Assist Cruelty Investigations team in assessing farm and equine cases, as well as assisting investigations team with round up of animals during rescues.
- Ensure quality control for all procedures within the department.
- Available to answer questions from staff and address policy and/or procedure violations.
- Report observed animal health or behavior issues or concerns and assisting with treatment.
- Assist staff with initial customer questions and/or issues in a timely manner.
- Responsible for entering accurate information regarding customers and animals into the database.
- Update the Chief Animal Welfare and Medical Officer on areas of interest and/or concern.
- Provide information to the public about Houston SPCA programs and promoting good animal care and responsible pet ownership.
- Advise potential adopters of Houston SPCA adoption benefits, policies and procedures.
- Protect all confidential information, including customers, donors, animals and internal communications.
- Represent the Houston SPCA by providing excellent customer service and focus.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
