Responsibilities:
NV5 is seeking a seasonal, full-time
Environmental Technician (Bat Focus) for our
Cary, NC office. The Environmental Technician will provide technical support to environmental team leads, with primary focus on bat related projects. Company vehicle will be provided for travel to survey sites and travel expenses will be reimbursed. Lodging will be provided for overnight stays associated with surveys.

- Assist with mist-net surveys, bridge and culvert surveys, collecting bat acoustic data, downloading and organizing call data, conducting call analysis using bat call ID programs, equipment maintenance and decontamination.
- Technical report preparation based on field data collection
- Assist with field work and technical report writing will be required for other environmental project types but will not be the focus of the position.
- Applicants must be willing to work for long days (> 10 hours) under physically challenging conditions (e.g., hot, humid days walking through mixed habitats with the potential for biting insects, venomous snakes, and other hazards).
- Working towards or already earned a BS/BA in biology, zoology, wildlife and fisheries science or related field.
- Experience conducting field-based research.
- Experience working collaboratively in teams as well as independently.
- A valid driver’s license and ability to drive long distances to field sites.
- Willingness to travel for consecutive days/nights
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hold, or currently a subpermittee on a USFWS Section 10 recovery permit allowing capture of (at a minimum) eastern bat species (Indiana, northern long-eared, and gray bats, with the ability to add tricolored bats)
- Recent rabies pre-exposure vaccination or titer check within the last two years
- Experience or interest in studying bats, including mist-netting, bat identification techniques, Anabat detectors and bat call identification. radio tracking and vegetation surveys.
- Experience using a GPS and GIS is also preferred.
- Experience or interest in acoustic surveys.

- This position will be subject to outside environmental conditions, including weather conditions such as wet and /or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments.
- Some work will be in the field involving long term standing and frequent walking as well as include common hazards at project sites.
- Ability to carry heavy equipment (approximately 50 lbs.) long distances in field conditions
- Must be able to wade in water, walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to walk and/or stand up to 10-12 hours a day on occasion.
- Additional physical duties may be required as necessary.
