A Brief Overview
The Operating Room (OR) Environmental Supervisor is responsible for the delivery of environmental support services as well as equipment maintenance and repair for the Operating Room Region. The Operating Room (OR) Environmental Supervisor also supervises the Operating Room Assistants (including Lead) in the training, coaching and day-to-day performance of their duties and ensures that the team/staff adhers to the standards and protocols of the Stanford Health Care (SHC). In addition, there is the management of organizational systems and workflow, continuous quality improvement, fiscal management and departmental goals and programs for the Main Operating Room and related areas.

What you will do
  • Manages and monitors the provision of quality, cost-effective environmental support services in accordance with standards of practice and SHC policies and procedures.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates systems and practices which facilitate smooth work flow and desired outcomes. Solicits input from managers, leads, and staff. Recommends changes and enhancements to the Patient Care Manager.
  • Works with management, leads and staff to determine a model for environmental support services in the OR region. Implements and evaluates model for safety, efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Manages, coaches and trains staff for proper utilization of personnel in relation to the level and type of patient activity, employee expertise and staffing/scheduling guidelines.
  • Fosters management development of lead personnel through identification of learning needs, designing a development plan and facilitation of learning opportunities. Ensures there is adequate ongoing educational programs and training opportunities for all staff in areas of responsibility, including orientation of new employees and relevant inservice staff sessions.
  • Effectively determines the qualifications and competence of departmental staff who provide patient care services and who are not licensed independent practitioners, documents initial and ongoing competence of staff.
  • Interviews, hires, coaches, counsels, and evaluates personnel utilizing appropriate SHC resources including: policies, procedures and the department of Human Resources.
  • Works with Lead personnel and staff to develop, maintain and evaluate a comprehensive continuous quality improvement and safety program that is in compliance with Periop Services and the hospital at large.
  • Proactively uses problem solving process to identify, prevent, or resolve departmental related problems, utilizing the chain of command as necessary.
  • Works with managers, leads, and staff to plan, develop and recommend annual budgets. Assists with administering and monitoring expenditures, completing variance reports and implementing corrective action to resolve budget variances.
  • Coordinates and problem solves cleaning and maintenance with key managers of other hospital departments.
  • Coordinates the equipment maintenance and repair of major moveable and fixed equipment in the OR Region with key individuals in the OR and other departments.
  • Collaborates with Materials Management personnel to establish inventory levels.
  • Integrates department's services with the hospital's primary functions by supporting organizational mission, priorities and goals, and be delivering optimal quality health care services
  • Coordinates and integrates services within department and with other departments by continually collaborating with other managers. Acts as a resource concerning Environmental Support for the Periop Region and the hospital at large.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services, ensures that policies and procedures are compatible with the function and goals of SHC and which meet the external regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Continuously assesses and improves department's performance based on "customer" needs; directs and participates in improving performance and services which benefit staff, patients and other customers.
  • Effectively maintains appropriate quality improvement and control programs in response to staff and patient feedback, internal standards of care and external requirements.
  • Recommends space and other resources needed by department to meet patient and staff needs.
  • Recommends and participates in selecting outside sources for needed services
  • Develops and maintains an effective system of information, records and reports for assigned departments(s) utilizing appropriate manual or electronic system

Education Qualifications
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent

Experience Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of related experience, including one (1) year of Lead or Supervisory experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated familiarity, knowledge and understanding of management principles and practices Familiar with the standard operating processes and procedures within a highly regulated environment
  • Demonstrated skills in problem solving, interpersonal relationships and verbal and written communication.
  • Customer service oriented
  • Handle complaints and sensitive concerns in a courteous and confidential manner.
  • Familiarity with functions including Housekeeping, Materials Management, Food Services, Inventory and Planning
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of organizational systems and workflow in order to supervise/manage properly
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of continuous quality improvement, fiscal management and departmental goals and programs
  • Ability to multi-task, plan and work within specific timelines
  • Ability to work in an environment where there are multiple priorities

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $42.04 - $54.66 per hour
