BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB Reporting to the Manager of Health and Safety and working closely with the Director of Public Safety and Chief Safety Officer, responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the environment of care, life safety, fire safety, hazardous materials and waste, and safety management programs. Is the assistant safety officer and co-chairs the Environment of Care Committee. Examples: Accountants, Medical Records, Concierge, DAP Team, PI Specialist, and Human Resources. JOB REQUIREMENTS Minimum Education - Preferred Bachelor's degree in related field. Minimum Work Experience Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a healthcare safety management and support services. Required Licenses / Registrations MA DRIVERS - Massachusetts Drivers License Required additional Knowledge, and Abilities Must be effective with oral and written communication skills and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills. Detail oriented, with well developed organizational and time management skills. Proficient using Microsoft products, and miscellaneous database and support software. Familiar with TJC, CMS, NFPA and OSHA standards, and other related safety regulations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Essential functions are those tasks, duties and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the job's purpose and objectives. Following are the essential functions of the job. 1 - Is the Assistant Safety Officer and Co-Chairs the Environment of Care Committee. 2 - Coordinates the on-going, organization-wide collection of information about deficiencies (injuries, problems, or use errors) to monitor conditions in the environment and disseminates summaries of actions and result. 3 - Manages the preparation of summaries on findings, recommendations, actions taken, and results of performance improvement (PI) activities. 4 - Manages safety risks and coordinates risk reduction activities in the physical environment through monitoring, investigation, reporting, and education. 5 - Manages environmental rounds/hazard surveillance and incident reporting. 6 - Maintains and inspects all EC, LS, fire safety, hazardous materials and waste, and safety management documentation for regulatory review, including satellite locations. 7 - Participates in developing safety policies and procedures. 8 - Submits completed reports at least quarterly to the Environment of Care Committee (EOC) concerning findings, recommendations, actions, and monitoring. 9 - Coordinates and/or participates in the development of departmental and facility wide safety policies and procedures. 10 - Reviews departmental environment of care policies and procedures to assist in making them consistent with and integrated into the facility-wide safety management plan. 11 - Works with content experts to assure each of the environment of care management plans are evaluated at least annually. 12 - Works with functional leaders to assure the objectives, scope, performance, and effectiveness of each of the environment of care management plans are evaluated at least annually. 13 - Works with colleagues to initiate appropriate actions and recommendations based on analysis of incident reports and other information. Ensures issues chosen by the EOC committee are monitored and the results reported to that committee. 14 - Conducts annual risk assessments, and assists other responsible managers in conducting risk assessments. 15 - Assists in defining performance indicators for evaluation of the safety management program, and in reporting performance indicators of all areas of the environment of care to the EOC committee. 16 - Reviews and oversees the safety management programs and practices of vendors and contractors. 17 - Manages the Plan for Improvement (PFI) process: schedules consultant, coordinates assessments, reviews documentation, reports on deficiencies, issues work orders, tracks deficiencies, initiates interim life safety measures, monitors process to completion, and provides regular updates and reports. 18 - Manages fire safety process and training program, including: scheduling, conducting, documenting, and critiquing fire drills and training sessions. 19 - Manages risks, related to hazardous materials and waste, including: written inventory of hazardous materials and wastes, weekly inspections, manifests, permits, licenses, Safety Data Sheets, Hazard Communication Plan, and other documentation as required. 20 - Drafts, reviews, completes and conducts the following education and training for the organization: EOC education, General Hospital Orientation, and safety programs. 21 - Assists in the management of the Respiratory Protection Program, including; database management, analysis, fit testing, review and develop policies, participate in PPE review, and coordinate and manage annual fit testing. 22 - Works with colleagues and vendors to maintain compliance with the industrial hygiene program for staff safety. 23 - Supports the responsible leaders, to minimize risk associated with selecting, handling, storing, transporting, using and disposing of: hazardous chemicals and radioactive materials and coordinates hazardous materials and waste training for responsible staff. 24- Develop an environmental strategy for SSH, with a primary focus on climate action in operations and supply chain; managing the collection of data, identify sustainability projects to drive environmental performance and operational efficiency, including energy, water and waste efficiency and renewable energy, support the preparation of internal and external communications ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Cont.) 1 - Technology and Learning a - Participates in continued learning and possess a willingness and ability to learn and utilize new technology and procedures that continue to develop in their role and throughout the organization. b - Embraces technological advances that allow us to communicate information effectively and efficiently based on role. Following are unit specific functions of the job, along with the corresponding performance standards. 1 - Public Safety liaison to Emergency Preparedness leadership: (Active Emergency Preparedness Committee member, plans, schedules, executes, monitors, and initiates improvement activities for assigned exercises, responsible for department specific plans). 2 - Assists with public safety emergencies. 3 - Cross-trains and provides back up to other coordinators within public safety division.
