Environmental Health and Safety Manager

About the Position:
The Environmental Health and Safety Manager is “hands on” and engaged with the plant and workforce and is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of all safety and environmental programs, policies, documentation, and claims management. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement programs to eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses.
  • Identify and appraise conditions, which could produce accidents and financial losses and evaluating the potential extent of resulting injuries.
  • Develop accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies of the organization.
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents and prepares reports.
  • Maintain liaison with outside organizations, such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams to assure information exchange and mutual assistance and participates in activities of related professional organizations.
  • Prepares and schedule training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
  • Monitor compliance with safety procedures.
  • Maintain and updates all required safety programs
  • Manage all injury claims and reporting duties
  • Inspect, test, and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure we are leading the industry in safety standards
  • Educate all employees and leadership regarding workplace safety by preparing and providing training programs
  • Coordinate safety activities and events for the company
  • Work with engineers to develop, acquire and/or maintain safety devices for the company
  • Maintain MSDS and other environmental documents to ensure the company is in compliance with all governing rules
  • Manage all waste disposals and documents to ensure company is in compliance
  • Use best practices for implementing most current safety policies and programs
  • Evaluate current PPE and make recommendations for improvements
  • Conduct mock audits and make recommendations to ensure compliance
  • Stay abreast of current periodicals and credentials to maintain certifications

Position Requirements:
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications
Safety Management Specialist (SMS) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification

Physical Demands:
Sit at a desk for prolonged periods of time.
Lift, push, pull 50lb periodically.
See details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
Speak clearly, so listeners can understand.
Understand the speech of another person.

Willing to travel and extended stays as necessary for training
