Your Impact:
Jacobs is currently seeking an Environmental Field Technician to join our Moss Point, MS office full time for a duration of approximately 3 months. The successful candidate will be assigned to the project site in Moss Point, MS. The responsibilities will consist of a wide variety of office and field tasks related to compliance, reporting, and limited maintenance of remediation systems. Office tasks include preparation of reports for internal tracking, assistance with compliance reports, compiling and tracking data from remediation systems, waste inventory and tracking. Field tasks include compliance sample collection, equipment calibration, routine system data collection, occasional minor remediation system maintenance and repair, occasional subcontractor oversight, occasional grounds maintenance (mowing).
- Lead and support safety operations at the site including acting as owner of standard operating procedures.
- Oversee or perform field work tasks under minimal to no supervision such as subcontractor oversight, equipment inspections, compliance inspections, groundwater sampling, surface water sampling, and soil sampling.
- May include routine set-up, assembly, installation, and/or minor troubleshooting or simple repairs of remediation equipment, as directed.
- Read, review, and understand site’s 3 permits (Stormwater NPDES, Treated Groundwater NPDES, and RCRA permit for closed hazardous waste landfill).
- Act as onsite lead in maintaining compliance with permit conditions.
- Perform compilation of field, system, and analytical data.
- Lead compliance reporting efforts in accordance with the NPDES permits for the site including:
- Obtain system data from control computer and enter in NPDES tracking sheet.
- Review and compile analytical data from weekly and monthly compliance samples.
- Enter system and analytical data into online compliance portal (NetDMR).
- Work directly with Project Manager or Task Manager to complete QC of data.
- Participate in planning and organizing related to field tasks including:
- Calling subcontractor(s) to obtain quotes for work.
- Attending team planning conference calls and contributing ideas/insights using site and system specific knowledge.
- Reviewing subcontractor proposals for safety, quality, ability to be implemented, and cost.
- Complete rigorous and clear field documentation including weekly reports, photo logs, inspection sheets, preventative maintenance sheets, etc.
Qualifications
- Experience planning and executing field work programs including pre-ordering equipment and materials required to complete the work.
- Experience working on active project sites including interacting with subcontractors.
- Experience participating in and leading field health and safety programs.
- Excellent computer skills including the use of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft suite of products.
- Ability to work and communicate within a team structure is critical; must have strong communication skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, and challenging environment with a positive attitude and dedication.
- Knowledge of Federal waste regulations (RCRA) preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to bend, twist, crouch, kneel, walk on uneven surfaces.
- Ability to operate light landscaping equipment (weed whacker, backpack sprayer, shovel, rake).
- Ability to climb ladder/work from ladder.
- Ability to walk long distances on steep, uneven slopes
