Summary

This is a full-time position to provide a full spectrum of environmental research, fieldwork, documentation, report preparation, public involvement, and local, state, and federal agency coordination services to clients in the area of environmental documentation and permitting in support of a variety of public and private infrastructure projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Participate in and assist with multi-faceted projects for both public and private sector clients, including National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation. Carry out hands-on work in the areas of conducting environmental research and document review, preliminary assessments, environmental planning, and preparation of NEPA documentation, and local, state, and federal permit applications.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal natural resource agencies, clients, staff, and other professionals to obtain project information and secure NEPA document approvals. Excellent communications skills (both verbal and written) are required.
  • Schedule, lead and coordinate / facilitate public and agency meetings.
  • Prepare and route project-related correspondence and record keeping.
  • Interact with other personnel, including project engineers, AutoCAD drafters, document production staff, and graphics technicians.
  • Perform and lead field work relating to wetlands, wildlife, and other natural resources.
  • Research, write, and edit reports and proposals. Excellent writing skills are critical.
  • Assist in preparing scopes of work, budgets, schedules, and other project management tasks.
  • Provide peer review, quality control, and mentoring of more junior level staff.
  • Consistently exercise discretion and judgment in all work tasks.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience

This position requires a Bachelors’ degree in environmental, planning, engineering or related science program from an accredited university and 6 years’ experience with (NEPA and/or environmental compliance project experience or a Masters’ degree in environmental, planning, engineering or related science program and 5 years’ experience with (NEPA and/or environmental compliance project experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to create and interpret graphs.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of NEPA and general familiarity with areas of study relating to aquatic biology, wildlife, noise, air quality, wetlands, archeology/cultural resources, and other key areas.
  • Knowledge of the Clean Water Act and experience preparing applicable federal, state, and local permit applications.
  • A desire to work with diverse interests to build better projects is critical.
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project software.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to clients, co-workers, and the public.
  • Must have excellent writing skills and be able to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • The ability to travel and work in remote areas under adverse conditions for extended periods of time may be required.
  • Ability to prioritize special projects and daily workload of more junior level staff to ensure that all work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

On occasion, must have the ability to work at remotes sites. Ability to walk and hike through rough terrain, mud, snow, and ice; dig with shovel or digging bars; routinely lift between 30 & 50 pounds.

Overtime work may be required based on work deadlines, and occasional weekend work may be required.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
