About the Position
Entry Level Transportation/Traffic Engineer | Bedford, NH
VHB’s Bedford, NH team is seeking an entry-level Transportation/Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation Systems group. The selected candidate will work with a team of traffic engineers and transportation planners on a variety of public, private, and institutional projects within broad cross-section of markets, including municipal, state agencies, higher education, federal lands, and aviation.
Our ideal candidate has an interest in the practice of traffic and transportation engineering and is eager to apply practical solutions to real world problems for our clients. Our ideal candidate is open to on-the-job training on a wide variety of small to large infrastructure projects including sidewalks, trails, intersections, arterial roadways, urban roadways, interstates, and interchanges; traffic signal design and timing; and traffic and transportation studies for land development projects and corridor planning. This position includes developing and enhancing a diverse set of skills on transportation design, operations, and/or planning projects throughout this expanding region.
Responsibilities
- Working within a team of professionals in developing traffic and transportation planning and engineering solutions for a multitude of transportation projects
- Developing sign, pavement marking, and traffic signal design plans in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
- Developing traffic signal timing plans
- Preparing written documents, summarizing data and analysis, and assembling reports to convey findings and recommendations
- Collecting and tabulating traffic data
- Performing intersection and corridor operational analyses using Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, Sidra, and other analysis tools
- Analyzing, developing, and evaluating of traffic improvements
- Performing field equipment testing, utility, and infrastructure verification (i.e., taking measurements and pictures at field sites)

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation a plus
- EIT Designation is a plus
