The Folk Arts-Cultural Treasures Charter School (FACTS) is a K-8 charter school located in the Chinatown area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. FACTS was named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School. FACTS teachers plan together, share successful practices, and support each other’s growth.
We are seeking a Pennsylvania certified ELD teacher for grades K-8. This position is available for the 2023-2024 School Year. The candidate will likely work with middle school age students.
QUALIFICATIONS: Pennsylvania teaching certification or eligibility is required. MA in TESOL is preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
FACTS teachers challenge, inspire, and actively engage students in their own learning process by teaching both for content and for critical thinking and character development. Teachers work cooperatively as part of a grade team as well as with content area teachers, Special Education and other specialist teachers.
The ELD teacher teaches in both inclusion and pull-out settings in order to accelerate students’ acquisition of English and the academic content of math, language arts, science, and social studies in order to meet classroom expectations; serves as a liaison between the EL student and all their classroom teachers and their families and the school; assists in other school programs as assigned; and creates a flexible program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student's ability and level of achievement. The ELD teacher is expected to be well-versed in culturally responsive teaching as well as language development. ELD teachers are assigned a caseload based on the shifting needs of FACTS students and therefore should expect to teach different grade levels during their career at FACTS .
FACTS ELD teachers:
- Develop and implement instructional programs to meet the individual needs of ELL students that is in a manner consistent with FACTS’ mission statement
- Provides instruction to ELL students individually or in small groups, across a variety of settings (push-in, pull-out and/or 1:1), on a daily basis
- Maintain a school atmosphere in which human and cultural values are shared to the fullest possible extent, and in which attainment of self-reliance, responsible behavior and a positive self-image are of prime importance
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to plan and coordinate instruction
- Develop a cooperative partnership with students and parents based on mutual respect
- Establish and maintain high standards for pupil behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere
- Interpret the educational program to parents and other community members through personal conferences, meetings, and various media using the primary language when appropriate
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials to motivate students and cater to the needs of all ability levels within the class
- Meet requirements for the assessment and documentation of student development
- Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day, as required
- Complete all reports as required, including student evaluation, inventories, orders, and program evaluation
