Job Function:

Define Cost Estimate Scope: Define the project scope, time period, phases to be estimated and communication channels. Establish any boundaries for estimates or project requirements.

Define Assumptions or Constraints: Review the client's responses, terms & conditions, and suppliers/subcontractors’ offers. Prepare the qualifications, exceptions, deviations and other issues which could affect the prices or project duration.

Develop Approach: Review customer-supplied drawings or develop a 3D concept model as needed.

Develop Cost Element Structure: Identity everything defined in the scope to be costed.

Collect and Monitor Data: Collect and monitor data, manage risks, identify (if necessary) contingency plans, control changes and communication. Measure and report on progress.

Develop Cost Estimate: Calculate costs and prepare quotes for materials, equipment, and labor from start to finish for “build to print” and “design/build” projects.

Develop Project Schedule: Estimate the time required to complete a project by analyzing the scope of work and the resources available to complete the job. Develop a project schedule in MS Project.

Document Approach: Author the technical approach for each proposal. Present the proposal package to the internal proposal review team.

Internal Review: Create detailed estimates using the standard estimating spreadsheet.

Core Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing drawings or concept models to determine cost estimates based on materials, labor costs, overhead expenses, and profit margins.
  • Identifying potential problems with materials or design that could affect costs or fabrication timeframes.
  • Determining material costs, labor rates, and overhead expenses for each step of a project and adding them up to calculate an overall estimate.
  • Forecasting labor costs by calculating the number of workers needed to complete the job based on their hourly rate and working hours per week.
  • Consulting with the shop foreman, engineers, and contractors to determine costs for various materials and equipment.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Solidworks and Autocad Inventor.
  • Experience with MS Project is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
