Engineer II Job at GoTriangle
The Engineer II is a contributing member of the team responsible for bus infrastructure design and construction and may be a member of the agency team for major capital projects. The Engineer II executes efforts in support of design and construction of transit facilities including bus stops, transfer centers, park-and-rides, and operations and maintenance facilities, including performing technical work and project management support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Executes departmental and agency priorities in coordination with and with direction from more senior team members.
- Supports development of scopes of work/services, independent cost estimates, and procurement documents; may assist with selection of consultants, contractors, and suppliers; and may support contract negotiations.
- May contribute to supervision of consultants, contractors, and suppliers, including active management of project scope, schedule, budget, risks, and quality management.
- Assists with management of cost, schedule and other project controls data and maintains files through direct input of this project-related information, correspondence and documentation in the e-Builder system.
- Contributes to productive engagement with staff from other GoTriangle teams such as finance, operations, transit partnerships, communications, real estate, and planning.
- May develop materials and makes presentations to the GoTriangle Board of Trustees, other elected and appointed Boards, business, community and other groups.
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships with technical staff of partner organizations as assigned.
The Engineer II may specialize in one or more of the following technical project delivery disciplines:
Design, Real Estate, and Permitting
Supports preparation and contributes to agency review of plans, renderings, building information modeling, specifications, costs, and quantity estimates for capital projects.- Supports evaluation of proposed changes to approved plans and specifications; preparation of a variety of reports and correspondence on project matters including field and design engineering changes, and correspondence with contractors on fulfillment of requirements.
- May contribute to monitoring of consultant work activities to ensure compliance with scope, schedule, budget and established policies and procedures.
- Supports coordination with GoTriangle real estate department and real estate acquisition consultants to support acquisitions necessary for assigned projects.
- Supports coordination with local and state agencies as necessary to obtain required design permits for assigned projects.
- Assists in the development of planning and environmental documents and coordinates project reporting requirements.
- Performs in-house design tasks as assigned.
Construction Management
Assists with oversight and management of assigned construction contracts.- Uses relevant state, local, national and federal building codes and specifications while providing Quality Assurance monitoring and inspections of site work at small or large-scale projects, including contractor work progress and completion. Documents site inspection findings through preparation and submittal of daily and/or weekly reports, including photos, using e-Builder.
- Assists with review and approval of invoices and progress payments; preparation of payment packages for authorization for payment, and monitoring compliance with Davis-Bacon wage rates and federal Master Agreement clauses.
- Supports contract close-out and securing Contractor prepared technical documents for GoTriangle's project record documents, including as-built plans, drawings, and schematics.
- May support the Manager with creation of construction management workflows, process maps, and procedures for implementation during the project lifecycle phases, especially procurement, execution, monitoring and controlling, closeout, and disposal phases; administration of construction contracts, including working with procurement to manage bid phase activities; coordination with contractors, monitoring construction activities in the field; managing contract schedule and budget, processing change orders, and conducting close-out activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university. A degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field is preferred.
- Two years of progressively responsible experience in a state or local government, consulting firm, or similar.
- Professional Engineer License preferred
- Intermediate understanding of the complete lifecycle of capital infrastructure projects including project initiation, planning, design, contracts and procurement, construction, safety oversight and closeout phases. Internship in transit, transportation, or related field is preferred.
- Ability to advance several assigned activities at once with management support and direction.
- Intermediate level of interpersonal skills required to effectively communicate with coworkers and the general public.
- Intermediate computer skills required; intermediate or advanced skills in BlueBeam, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word are preferred.
- Experience using design software such as Microstation and/or AutoCAD is preferred.
- Experience using project management and scheduling software such as e-Builder, MS Project, and Primavera is preferred.
- Valid driver's license.
An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the above stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
Working Hours and Conditions:
Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting operating facilities and project sites, during which the incumbent should observe all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and use all protective clothing and devices provided.
Salary Range: - $57,035 - $106,645
