***This position can be hired as either an Engineer I or Engineer II depending on experience***
Job Summary:
The System Operations Engineering (SOE) team develops solutions that ensure the reliable operations of the Duke Energy Indiana and Duke Energy Ohio/Kentucky Transmission grids. SOE provides engineering, compliance, and project scheduling expertise to ensure the transmission system can withstand all challenges including energy emergencies, outages both planned and unplanned, extreme weather, and changing load and generation profiles, etc.
Responsibilities:
  • Participates in project development meetings providing operational input
  • Study the effects of planned transmission and generation outages on the Duke Energy transmission system.
  • Develop operating guides to mitigate contingency overload issues for planned or forced outages (coordinated with the Regional Transmission Organization).
  • Conduct post-mortem analysis to investigate events that occur on the transmission system.
  • Work closely with other departments throughout the company to obtain information, determine costs, budget projects, and provide various technical studies.
  • Develop various situational awareness tools for the ECC using PI Vision, EMS, Excel, etc.
  • Support various MISO operating committees and working groups providing input and feedback regarding Duke Energy positions.
  • Act as SME and Owner of various Operating Plans and Procedures including participating in NERC MRRE Audits.
  • Provide training assistance to System Operators.
Basic Qualifications:
***This position can be hired as either an Engineer I or Engineer II depending on experience***
Engineer I
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
Engineer II
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • 2 years minimum required related experience
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Received a passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam
  • Experience in the utility industry and understanding and knowledge of the transmission system.
  • Demonstrated ability to be creative, self-starter, flexible to accommodate changing parameters, innovative, and able to develop creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in a variety of meetings to represent the company’s transmission operations function
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
Working Conditions
  • Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility.
Specific Requirements
  • Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
