Job Summary
The Cost Engineer coordinates with each project management team, incorporating standardized procedures developed to create uniformity of documentation and consistency in tracking all significant information as it relates cost control, quantity tracking, project financials, accruals, budget management, and cost estimates for claims and as needed. Works with the team to formulate and follow project specific financial plans that enable accurate forecasts of project revenue, cost, profit, billing, and collections. Assists project management team with overall construction budgeting and scheduling.
Job Description
- Reviews subcontracts and purchase orders to obtain budgetary information for proper project budgeting; performs cost/profit analyses on change orders and extra work estimates
- Maintains logs as needed to track deliverables
- Assists in the preparation and maintenance of various essential reports and schedules; i.e., Subcontractor Status Reports, Contract and Change Order Logs, Cost to Complete reports, etc. for the purpose of preparing accurate triannual Forecasts
- Is familiar with Company accounting systems and how to utilize each
- Supports project management team in the preparation of CTC Reports and triannual forecasts; assist with monthly billing, cash flow projections, and change order processing
- Coordinate with project management teams to resolve project issues to ensure the completion of the project work according to budget
- Assist project management team in quantity tracking; executed and quantities to be executed in all project activities for Prince, subcontractors and vendors
- Assists project management team in claim preparation for all assigned projects
- Help maintain the cost monitoring system (SPE / HeavyJob / eCMS / DRT)
- Handles confidential legal and financial information on a regular basis
- Executes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Job Requirements
- Associate degree in finance, engineering or similar preferred, but not required
- At least three (3) years of experience within a heavy highway construction environment
- Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills, namely Excel
- Organizational ability – able to plan, prioritize, schedule, organize, and prioritize activities
- Problem solving – identifies critical issues, seeks relevant information, generates alternatives, logically weighs options
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work well with many different teams
- Works diligently against deadlines, sets goals and achieves them, persists through obstacles, ensures work is timely and accurate
- Extreme attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve problems by analyzing information skillfully and developing alternative solutions
