How does this role support our Mission?

The Employee Development Specialist provides intensive assistance and career development services for Goodwill Industries’ employees. Working in collaboration with the employee, the Employee Development Specialist produces career development plans; personal budgets, and makes referrals for community resources and/or services; and maintains confidential records. The Employee Development Specialist interacts with all of Goodwill of Southern Arizona staff and management, members of the public, and other community service providers.

Qualifications:
  • Three (3) years of work experience that includes direct experience as a case manager/human services or as a supervisor of employees
  • Certified Individual Peer Support Specialist (CIPSS) or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
  • At least one year’s experience as a peer support specialist preferred.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and a fine attention to detail.
  • Must be highly compassionate and able to exercise good independent judgment and creativity as necessary in program development and identification of solutions to employee issues/needs.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with the Associate Director of Training and consults regularly with the Employee’s Manager on: sensitive, confidential employee services, career development methodology, policies and procedures, and interdivisional collaboration and communication.
  • Develops and maintains excellent working relationships with all stakeholders in support of a collaborative approach to employee development.
  • Spends approximately 70% of their time “on-site” at Goodwill stores, donation centers and warehouses working directly with the employees at their location, utilizing break-rooms or other available spaces.
  • Interviews employees and community members, completes confidentiality agreements, develops Career Development Plans, personal budgets and keeps accurate case notes.
  • Makes referrals to, and for, community support resources, and maintains good working relationships with referral agencies.
  • Acts as a liaison for the organization in matters relating to community programs and resources available to employees.
  • Meet with employees regularly to offer one-one-support and coaching.
  • Responsible for development and delivery of Career and Financial Education curriculum to all Goodwill employees.
  • Promote usage of the Learning Management System(LMS), suggest courses, learning journeys and other training opportunities for employees as part of Career Development Plans.
  • Completes reports and all appropriate paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Provides crisis intervention and critical life-sustaining resources for employees including referral to support services in a highly compassionate manner.
  • Implements and maintains compliance of pertinent CARF accreditation standards for both departmental and agency requirements.
  • Provides follow-up on all employee Career Development Plans, personal budgets and referrals to community service agencies/providers. Documents follow-up in case notes.
  • Facilitates aspects of the employee’s Career Development program to assist the employee in achieving his/her goals.
  • Actively supports employees with companywide initiatives, including, but not limited to, learning and development options, Employee Assistance Program, Wellness, and any other events or activities sponsored by the company.
