Emerson Prison Initiative Reentry Coordinator

The Emerson Prison Initiative (EPI) provides an Emerson College BA degree pathway to incarcerated students at MCI-Concord, a men's medium-security state prison, and at Northeastern Correctional Center, a minimum-security prison. The Emerson Prison Initiative is housed within the Marlboro Institute for Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies at Emerson College. The Reentry Coordinator will focus on the creation and coordination of reentry processes for EPI students and alumni and providing case management. When case management needs are less, the Reentry Coordinator will focus on supporting other aspects of EPI as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Build on and expand the profile of EPI's Reentry and College Outside Program (RECOUP), a reentry program for formerly incarcerated EPI students, in collaboration with EPI leadership and partner offices at Emerson College and organizations in the greater Boston area.
  • Develop College and multi-agency partnerships to establish best practices to address issues of housing, healthcare, employment, and education for returning citizens.
  • Provide case management and reentry support services for EPI students and alumni to ensure a successful transition outside. This includes working in-person with EPI students and alumni throughout the greater Boston-area and other communities as needed.
  • Work with the Department of Correction, parole offices, and other government agencies to support returning citizens
  • Data management duties, including working with EPI Leadership to maintain student records and transfer credit processes.
  • Attend monthly EPI Advisory Council and RECOUP meetings.
  • Generate regular program reports and documents for internal and public-facing use.
  • Provide administrative support to other aspects of EPI's college-in-prison program, including coordinating events on Emerson's Boston campus, contributing to EPI's newsletter, and working with EPI faculty and tutors as they prepare to teach.
  • Support EPI students and alumni in planning and realizing their educational and professional goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS - Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.
  • B.A. required (wide range of fields acceptable)
  • Preference for graduate training, extensive work experience in reentry, and/or lived experience with the carceral system.
  • Proven experience in mentoring, advising, or other peer-on-peer support.
  • Ability to manage volunteers, both Emerson students and those in the community who may volunteer their time to support reentry work or other EPI programs.
  • Ablility to collaborate with Emerson staff and administration as needed for all aspects of reentry support, academic programming, and EPI related events.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job.
  • Demonstrated experience using: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Google Suite, and Constant Contact.
  • Data management skills.
  • Strong written, communication and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with students and alumni from diverse backgrounds, communicate effectively, and network and build partnerships at both grassroots and institutional levels
  • Must be self-motivated, and able to independently manager time and workload
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, particularly in relation to confidentiality, clear communication and consistent follow through on deadlines and project goals
  • Must have private transportation to meet with students and visit correctional facilities throughout the greater Boston area
