Summary of Position:

Maintains an organizational system to aid in the smooth flow of patients while following established procedures, standards of care, regulatory requirements, and the staffing and coordination of incoming and outgoing telephone communications relating to direct patient care.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Uses clinical equipment accurately and correctly when needed to perform basic patient care including, but not limited to, applying orthopedic appliances, removing boards and collars, accurately performing vital sign measures and documents on appropriate form, and performing 12-Lead EKG according to procedure.

Sets up sterile field using aseptic technique and provides additional support during procedure. Uses proper hand washing procedures and/or isolation precautions.

Utilizes the discharge program as directed, recording discharge instructions for the patient in layman's terms including diagnosis, medications, treatment and follow-up instructions. Reviews encounter form for patient charges. Enters accurate charges on from prior to discharge.

Performs basic computer functions including, but not limited to, entering patient pertinent information and providers orders timely and accurately.

Maintains a tracking system of each patient, maintaining the location of each patient with times for each step of their stay. Includes time of entry and discharge.

Maintains an appropriate inventory of supplies. Submits appropriate work orders, orders supplies, internal and external special orders. Stock rooms, specialty carts, code carts, IV trays and cabinets.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required. One (1) year hands-on clinical experience, six (6) months EMT, or completion of Nursing 101 required. Previous emergency department preferred. Medical terminology and prior medical office experience beneficial. Must possess above average typing skills and ability to use information systems. Knowledge in the use of select clinical equipment preferred. Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
