Lay out and install all equipment necessary to modify brand-new vehicles into police and emergency vehicles. This includes routing and installing wiring harnesses, controllers, partitions, auxiliary batteries, light bars, push bumpers and consoles. Disassembling and reassembling factory vehicles. Read drawings and schematics with limited help. Troubleshoot repair and modify electronic components. Apply principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, engineering, mathematics, electronic and electrical testing.
Successful applicants must pass a criminal background check and will be subject to a pre-employment drug screen.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a maintenance garage setting. This position may require working in wet or hot, humid non-weather conditions and in highly precarious places. This position may also require working in outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold, risk of electrical shock and work with explosives. Work is generally performed Monday through Friday 8am to 4:30pm but may require occasional overtime (on call status) or working nights, weekends, or holidays.
- Test electronics units and radios, using standard test equipment, and analyze results to evaluate performance and determine the need for adjustment.
- Perform preventative maintenance and calibration of radio and electronic systems to include programming, firmware updates, and seeing that equipment gets realigned to keep working at peak performance.
- Ensure computers/radios are kept up to date with software and working properly.
- Read blueprints, writing diagrams, schematic drawings, and engineering instructions for assembling radios, electronics units and applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
- Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with manufacturers and field representatives as necessary to procure replacement parts.
- Maintain system logs and manuals for document testing and operation of radio systems and all electronic equipment.
- Assemble, test, and maintain circuitry or electronic components according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, and knowledge of electronics, using hand and power tools.
- Adjust and replace defective or improperly functioning circuitry and electronics components, using hand tools and soldering iron.
- Provide user applications and engineering support and recommendations for new and existing equipment regarding installation, upgrades and enhancement.
- Install and set up equipment in new vehicles to include but not limited to computers, sirens, radios, etc.
- Place decals on new Sheriff’s Office vehicles
- Respond to afterhours calls in emergency situations during nights, weekends, and holidays.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Procure parts and maintain inventory and related documentation.- Service, repair, calibrate, regulate, fine-tune or test machines, devices and equipment that operate primarily based on electronic (not mechanical) principles.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
- Attends training as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Required: Must be 18 years of age; Must have a current, valid Driver’s License; Must be insurable.
Preferred: Experience and/or training in the mechanical, electronics and computer field.
- Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customers and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedure, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
- Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
- Repairing machines or systems using the needed.
- Performing routine maintenance on radio equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
- Managing one's own time.
- Watching gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
- The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
- Installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
- The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
- The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
- The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
- The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
