Electro-Mechanical Technician - Pavements Testing

SES Group & Associates is seeking an Electro-Mechanical Technician to conduct assist in research and development programs and projects for the Federal Government. The Pavement Testing Facility (PTF) uses rapid pavement testing of full-scale pavement structures to evaluate the durability of both new and existing pavement materials. The facility also assesses the impact of different tires and loads on pavement performance with the objective of advancing the knowledge of pavement engineering and the performance of highway materials and pavement structures.

The PTF uses Pavement Test Machines (PTMs) to simulate truck traffic under controlled loading and pavement temperatures to collect years of data within a few months by collecting pavement distress and performance data. The PTF is in the process of redesign and reconstruction of the pavement test lanes to expand the focus to the program which will require installation of hundreds of sensors and gauges.

The principal function of this position is initially helping prepare the site for the reconstruction of the pavement strips and installing the instrumentation, sensor and wiring for the next 10 years of data collection. Following reconstruction, the principal function of this position will be the hands on day-to-day operation and repair of the PTMs at the PTF. Duties also include assisting with data collection systems to evaluate the performance of pavement experiments.
