Electrician II Job at DCR - Urban Parks & Recreation
The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. DCR is a dynamic agency, and is one of the largest park systems in the nation. The DCR system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, golf courses, swimming pools, skating rinks, trails and parkways.
The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks qualified candidates for the position of
Electrician II, PSO West Region to troubleshoot electrical problems in DCR facilities in the South Region and takes required actions to remedy situation. Consults with contractors, utility companies and other trades personnel. All work is performed under Massachusetts codes.
Plans layout and installs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment, with the exception of elevator control equipment; plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, to provide access for future maintenance, to avoid unsightly, hazardous and unreliable wiring and to conform to specifications and electrical codes.
Repairs and maintains electrical equipment, such as motors, generators, transformers, regulators, wiring, switches, alarm systems and control equipment, by locating and determining the reason for malfunction, through the use of testing instruments, such as generators and heaters for the purpose of determining safety and efficiency.
Prepares sketches to identify the location for all wiring and equipment, or follows previously prepared diagrams and blueprints, to insure that concealed wiring is installed prior to the completion of future walls, ceilings and floorings.
Observes and/or inspects the functioning of installed equipment or systems to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement and repairs faulty equipment or systems, as required.
Inspects circuits and wiring for specified shielding and groundings, and repairs or rewires systems in accordance with building codes and safety regulations.
Operates and maintains motors, generators, testing, switchboards and power panels in good order, to avoid malfunctioning.
May supervise Laborers assisting in performing electrical installation, maintenance and repair duties.
Handles complaints regarding assigned work and takes appropriate corrective action
Determines stock and material needed for assignments and orders same.
Properly opens and closes work orders in the DCR work order system.
Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties, such as tests and charges storage batteries; reads electric meters and records meter readings; cleans and lubricates electrical machinery and equipment; maintains an inventory of parts and equipment, etc.
Perform other related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicant must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a licensed journeyman or master electrician.
Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Electrician's License issued by the Board of State Examiners of Electricians.*
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Class D Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
