The Senior Electrical Engineer provides technical leadership and subject matter expertise to create and implement new electrical standards, new automation design tools, and new processes that enable CDI to scale engineering and production without sacrificing our core value of putting our customer s critical climate first via customization.

Major roles and responsibilities:

  • Compliance to existing and emerging Safety Agency/Regulatory Standards. Design to applicable codes and standards and assist in management of 3rd party agency certification.
  • Design for installation, serviceability, and test including clear schematics, wire diagrams, and intuitive startup and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Design for flexibility / modularity. Remove recurring engineering costs by standardizing at a level that allows for flexibility for our customers while maintaining a low cost design. Enable less experienced engineers to create unique world-class systems from standard modules.
  • Design for manufacturability. Provide clear plans for wire routing, wire termination, and standard harnesses. Execute system designs that reduce factory confusion, variability, and high level, unique manufacturing skillsets.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager with mentoring junior engineers and technicians throughout the development cycle to support their professional development.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. Electrical Engineering Degree, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of experience at OEM equipment manufacturers

Experience and Knowledge:

  • 480V/575V High voltage electrical power distribution: device/conductor sizing & selection, application of device manufacturer ratings, UL 508A panel design, & thermal management
  • Electrical harness design, wire schematic and wire diagram standardization
  • Low voltage controls, including sensor selection, component selection, and integration
  • Large fans, motors, mechanical drives, motor control, and variable speed technologies
  • UL508A (CSA C22.2 NO 236) / UL1995 (CSA C22.2 NO 236) / UL 1203(CSA C22.2 NO 30) UL60335-2-40 / UL1996
  • Strong PC Skills, MSOffice, VBA, SolidWorks

  • Collaborates amongst disparate stakeholders to maximize value for our customers, through constant alignment to our customer s critical climate needs, active listening, and respect for all team members
  • Performs high level thinking: root-cause analysis, and recognition of patterns – drive to common strategic solutions; develops tools for automating tasks appropriately, to minimize confusion and waste in the factory
  • Adjusts communication to audience, collects feedback, and taps into power of synergy to innovate new solutions, uses storytelling to illustrate and motivate
  • Author concise, user-friendly documentation of electronic/electrical systems operation and diagnostic requirements including test/validation plans
  • Leadership: Acts on vision with courage, firmly rooted in reality, in ethical service to others

Bonus Skillsets:

  • OEM electrical engineering experience across multiple industries, and companies, to bring vast experience to bear on the problem
  • HVAC experience, with specialty knowledge and past experience in desiccant and refrigeration
  • Lean Six Sigma thinking regarding flow, and value streams
  • Growth mindset of coaching others to higher levels of responsibility and authority, to ensure continuous company growth
  • Low volume PCB design to maximize value, lower cost, and simplify manufacturing
  • ePlan Software experience
  • PLC Software Programming
