Job Summary:

This Electrical Engineer will provide both electrical and systems engineering support for Thermo King’s Auxiliary Power Unit product line. The position requires applying engineering principles and technical rigor to develop solutions that satisfy product requirements, quality, cost and schedule.

Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):

  • Develop new product solutions:
    • Work with internal and external resources to build strong understanding of transport industry trends and APU applications.
    • Leverage engineering principles and application knowledge to develop new and innovative design ideas focused on electrification, connectivity, user-experience, and improved system efficiencies and reliability.
  • Resolve product reliability issues:
    • Work to resolve electrical and electromechanical reliability issues.
    • Apply systematic problem solving skills to identify failure modes, develop solutions, and validate design improvements through testing.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with product management, test, software, modeling & simulation, field personnel, manufacturing and suppliers.
  • Manage test series:
    • Develop and execute test plans (component and system level) for reliability, durability, performance, and safety.
  • Implement design changes:
    • Conduct technical designs reviews.
    • Communicate design changes with engineering drawings, specification changes, and bill of material changes.
  • Manage small-scale projects:
    • Drive project execution.
    • Plan and coordinate timely integration of corrective actions.
    • Communicate project status as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 2 years of electrical and/or systems engineering experience is required.

Key Competencies:

  • Working knowledge and/or experience in electrical systems, components and power electronics. Examples would include microprocessor controllers, HMIs, batteries, inverters, generators, alternators, sensors, harnesses, relays, etc.
  • Electrical Engineer
    • Degreed electrical engineer.
    • Hands-on proficiency using electrical tools and instrumentation to perform testing and gather data.
    • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, software and control systems.
    • Can design, prototype, and test potential solutions.
  • Project Manager (for small scale projects)
    • Can develop a basic project plan.
    • Can lead design reviews.
    • Shows awareness of overall project status, risks and obstacles to progress
  • Communicator
    • Able to clearly communicate complex technical information to others, both verbally and through documentation.
