SUMMARY
The Education Specialist provides support to Early Head Start and Head Start classroom teaching staff to promote children’s growth in the areas of social-emotional, physical, cognitive, language development, and progress towards school readiness, including transition planning. The Education Specialist works collaboratively with the education team members and management to support EHS and HS programs, including aggregating children’s outcomes, development and implementation of education policies and procedures, and utilizing data to develop school readiness goals.
The Education Specialist can perform as interim Center Director as needed (refer to the Center Director job description).
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Requirements:
Education:
Baccalaureate, or advanced degree including at least 6 college courses (18 hours) in early childhood education and/or child development*, and 6 college credit hours in business management. *Courses qualify as defined by Head Start and TDFPS.
Must be eligible to qualify as a Center Director under TDFPS Minimum Standards.
Experience:
Five years of experience that may include any combination of teaching infant - 5-year-old childrenin a licensed childcare center.
Three years working in supervision and management in a Head Start Agency and/or licensed child-care facility, including: implementation of the theories and principles of child growth and development, early childhood education; family support; supervision and training of adults; educational program development, management, and assessment; and teaching in a Head Start classroom.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
· All duties are to be performed in accordance withHead Start Standards, TDFPS Minimum Standards, the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and Cen-Tex Family Services, Inc. (Cen-Tex) policies and procedures.
· Act as a resource to staff in EHS/HS education systems, providing expertise and oversight of this area to staff and program participants on an ongoing basis.
· Guide education staff on how to complete educational child screenings and assessments.
· Ensure agency provision of quality educational services that meeting agency goals and positive outcomes by maintaining systematic methods for providing feedback and direction (oral and written) on appropriate educational practices to teaching staff.
· Provide oversight to the development and implementation of agency goals and objectives, school readiness goals, and procedures in the EHS/HS service delivery. Monitor program performance and provide expertise to staff.
· Facilitate and assist in the provision of training to teaching staff that supports the components, objectives, and findings of child developmental screenings and assessments, such as hot to incorporate outcomes into individualized plans for children, lesson plans and classroom activities.
· Ensure agency provision of quality educational services that meet child assessment goals and positive outcome by assisting in researching and obtaining appropriate classroom furniture and supplies.
· Provide EHS/HS teaching training and development, including on-site - consultation, intensive coaching, and mentoring. Maintain required documentation of services provided to teaching staff.
· Provide support to the Education Director in program-wide educational program planning, monitoring, and evaluation.
· Provide for the creation and revision of agency forms and procedures pertaining to specialty area.
· Participate in interviewing, hiring and orientation of teaching staff.
· Participate as a cooperative team member with coworkers and supervisor in delivering services to children and families and supporting center operations. Working as a team member including adapting to changing work priorities and exhibiting tact and patience when dealing with others.
· Participate in professional development to promote and comply with the Head Start Performance Standards, agency goals and objectives, and the requirements of TDFPS, and demonstrate application of acquired knowledge while performing duties of position.
· Work closely with administrative staff to support program goals.
· Provide leadership, act as a resource to center staff to provide for the best practices in the delivery of services to children in families, including child behavioral and/or learning challenges and concerns, and recommend methods of modifying inappropriate behavior and encouraging learning experiences.
· Ensure confidentiality of agency and family information assigned to position.
· Work effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds, and those with disabilities and special needs. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans.
· Report to work at scheduled time and maintain good attendance. Perform all duties in a safe, timely and professional manner. Participate with a positive attitude and behavior in all program activities.
· Continue professional growth by participating in classes, training programs, workshops/conferences, as the budget allows.
· Provide a positive image to co-workers and the community supportive of the agency's goals and objectives.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Education Specialist doesn’t have supervisory responsibilities unless he/she is acting as a Center Director (see supervisory responsibilities in the Center Director’s job description).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.90 - $23.12 per hour
