Dillard’s is looking for a Performance Engineer who understands user behavior and site performance. We are looking for someone to ensure the site is user friendly, has no pain points for our customers, and performs at an optimum level.

Our eCommerce site has high exposure, so to be successful in this role, you must enjoy identifying, evaluating, and helping to resolve any issues. In this role, you will also help the team achieve its goals by monitoring code changes, working with the developers, staying current with the latest trends in Google performance rankings, reporting to management, and identifying and reporting key metrics for performance and error tracking. You will have the opportunity to be engaged in all aspects of the Dillard’s site through collaboration with developers, quality assurance, third parties, and other teams within the IT department.

THE TEAM

This role is on our eCommerce team, which is responsible for our company’s eCommerce site– Dillards.com. This is an agile team with iteration managers, business analysts, quality assurance, FEDs and developers all working together. On average, this team has a productional code deployment every three weeks consisting of two weeks of development and one week of quality assurance. Because of the size of the team, we are able to offer very flexible work hours, making it nice for those who want to arrange their work schedule to miss the morning or evening traffic by arriving earlier or later in the workday.

Our Dillard’s IT team is based out of our Corporate Office in Little Rock, AR. We’ve spent the last few years updating our eCommerce site and we are striving to ensure the site runs at an exceptional level. To ensure continued site performance improvement, we need a dedicated individual to monitor and track changes and impact, while also working with developers and third parties. WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Ensure Dillards.com site performance and reliability are maintained.
  • Identify key metrics for performance and error tracking and monitor those for necessary improvements and fixes through the usage of reports, dashboards, and/or alerts (through phone call, email, text, Slack).
  • Work with front and back end developers, as needed, to do root cause analysis of any issues.
  • Collaborate with other teams / vendors, as needed, when there are issues with external services used by the site.
  • Keep management informed of priority needs with regards to performance and errors.
  • Review performance / error related changes before and after deployment to production.
  • Keep the team up to date on the emerging trends in development for performance.
  • Keep up to date with the latest trends in Google performance rankings, especially in relation to Core Web Vital metrics.

THE “MUST HAVES”

  • 5+ years of experience working with large-scale eCommerce sites
  • Ability to write some SQL
  • Understanding of browsers’ dev tools / inspectors
  • Experience with Agile / SCRUM methodologies.
  • Quick learner who enjoys a fast-paced environment.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Ability to work onsite at Corporate Headquarters in Little Rock, AR

THE “NICE-TO-HAVES”

  • Personality and drive to handle multiple projects.
  • Experience collecting data and analyzing for anomalies.
  • Knowledge of Quantum Metric (session replay), mPulse (real user monitoring), DynaTrace (application performance monitoring), Speedcurve (synthetic performance monitoring), Splunk (log aggregator) or similar products.
  • Ability to analyze Google’s CrUX data.
  • Understanding of Google’s Lighthouse performance auditing tool.
  • Usage of WebHooks.

WITHIN 1 MONTH, YOU’LL

  • Understand the development/QA lifecycle to better review site performance based on code changes before and after deployment.
  • Learn to utilize Speedcurve and Google's Lighthouse to monitor site performance.

WITHIN 2 MONTHS, YOU’LL

  • Become familiar with Quantum Metric.
  • Learn to find and debug sessions and set up automated reports.
  • Learn how the new in-house feedback application integrates with Talkdesk, and be able to set up new surveys and distribution lists.

WITHIN 3 MONTHS, YOU’LL

  • Report to team on emerging trends in development for performance.
  • Understand how to troubleshoot issues utilizing Splunk logging and DynaTrace.
