Job Summary

Position Title: Drop-In Center Assistant/Advocate

Reports to: Director of Consumer Services

Exemption Status: Hourly (hours and days vary, non-exempt)

Qualifications: Candidate must be reliable, honest, able to work independently and able to handle difficult situations presented by members. Must have experience and/or knowledge of mental health services and/or be a consumer of mental health services. Must be able to manage members at the Center and activities in the absence of the Center’s Director.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • No convictions that would fail a Level Two background check
  • Flexible and dependable
  • Personal experience with mental and/or dual diagnosis issues and knowledge of recovery principles
  • High School diploma or GED preferred

Responsibilities and Duties

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide supervision and oversight of Center activities during assigned shifts as directed by the Director of Consumer Services.
  • Provide tours, orientation, and help members complete and update membership packets.
  • Lead groups and activities at the Center.
  • Work with the Center Staff in a team approach, to plan and implement monthly activities and daily Center operations (i.e., answer phone, socialize with members, complete paperwork, maintain refrigerator logs, obtain, rotate and stock supplies, clean, conduct fire drills, etc.)
  • Maintain and promote with members a positive recovery oriented atmosphere at the Center, helping members to resolve conflict, seek resources needed, and obtain peer support. Encourage peer involvement and empowerment.
  • Be knowledgeable about and implement Center policies and procedures for Drop-in Centers as outlined by MHA, SEFBHN, Treasure Coast Food Bank and the Department of Children and Families.
  • Assist in implementing health and safety procedures to ensure a sanitary, safe environment. In the event of an incident or accident properly and completely fill out incident report forms. Report building repair needs to the Director/Director of Consumer Services.
  • Work with the Center Director(s) to develop personal expertise and skills in order to contribute to member activities, training and/or educational services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Director of Consumer Services or the Executive Director.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $11.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Stuart, FL: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
