Responsible for safely operating a vehicle (van or minibus) to pick-up and drop off children with acute medical conditions enrolled in the Pediatric Skilled Nursing (PSN) Program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate Pediatric Skilled Nursing (PSN) vehicles over designated routes or in response to dispatcher/supervisor instructions
  • Promptly, accurately and completely comply with all driver and passenger record keeping requirements that include daily driver trip sheets, vehicle inspections, rider pickup and drop-off times, Title XIX (MTM Contract requirements) rider or physician documents plus parent or caregiver correspondence
  • Provide superior customer service to families and children as well as all necessary assistance to PSN Program participants in boarding and exiting
  • Ensure the safety of all riders by use of their appropriate passenger restraining device inside the vehicle
  • Provide minor vehicle maintenance when needed (replacement bulbs, checking fluid levels and tire pressure plus specified interval testing of all vehicle safety equipment and other approved tasks)
  • Exhibit a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
  • Readily adjust to variable working conditions including adverse weather, traffic and road construction, passenger challenges, trip changes, etc.
  • Document all assigned vehicle activities for each day including odometer readings, fuel purchases, vehicle deficiencies as well as any other required information
  • Maintain the vehicle’s interior and exterior appearance
  • Provide secondary (as scheduled) transportation service for MCFI Adult Day Programs or other designated agency divisions for medical and social trip purposes
  • Attend departmental and agency-wide safety briefings and training sessions (both formal and informal) as required
  • Present a positive public image of the PSN Program and MCFI and maintain confidentiality
  • Works in partnership with the quality department to develop appropriate measures in support of program outcomes.
  • Participates in department quality planning activities, (e.g. continuous improvement, Logic models, performance metrics, etc.,)

Experience and Skills

Must have a verifiable past work history providing passenger transportation. Minimum age 21 years. Current Wisconsin Driver License, without limitations that are incompatible with duties & responsibilities and a motor vehicle record acceptable to program and/ or contractual requirements. Pass a pre-employment physical examination, drug screen, TB test and background checks. Ability to successfully complete all required driver trainings within 90 days of hire to include Defensive Driving, First Aid, CPR, vehicle evacuation procedures, children’s mobility and securement devices, two-way communication procedures, Passenger Assistance and addressing bio-hazard situations. Able to respond to emergency situations in accordance with training received. Able to understand and follow written and verbal directions and speak and write in a clear concise manner. Accurately and promptly communicate PSN Participant or parent/caregiver concerns to designated PSN staff. Ability to read and understand a map of the PSN service area (Milwaukee County) and utilize navigation tools if available.

Must be able to safely push a person in a wheelchair on a level floor or on a wheelchair ramp in various weather conditions. Must be able to transfer a person from a wheelchair to the toilet, chair, or van seat/car with use of a gait belt and/or manual or power Hoyer lift. Must be able to frequently move, transport, position, push/pull and/ or lift objects, people or equipment weighting at least 50 pounds a distance of 450 feet. This position may work in a variety of indoor and outdoor work environments which may include, various outdoor weather conditions, loud noises, and fluctuating temperatures and the occasional use of stairs.
