Three small, private, student-centered schools are looking to hire an exceptional drama teacher to guide students in staging a full-scale production in Spring 2023. As the drama teacher, you will work with the students to select a play to perform and teach them the basics of theatrical production (lighting, sound, stage management, etc.) and acting. This is an exciting opportunity for someone eager to be given the freedom to work with motivated young people to stage a high-quality theatrical production.

This is a part-time position for the 2022-2023 school year, but could develop into a full-time role depending on need and interest.

Schedule:

  • The course will run from February 13, 2023 to June 16, 2023.
  • The class will meet for 1.5-hour sessions (4pm-5:30pm) on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Note: The teacher has the discretion to add additional meetings for dress rehearsals close to the performance date (TBD).

We may be able to switch the days from Tuesdays and Thursdays for the right candidate.

Location:

  • Classes will be located in Columbia Heights at Mysa School.

The ideal candidate has experience:

  • Working with young people from elementary through high school with varying levels of theater experience.
  • Teaching all aspects of theater production.
  • Experience working in the amateur or professional theater world.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills.

Compensation: $8,000

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $2,000.00 per month

Schedule:

  • 4 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • No weekends

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Washington, DC 20004: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Experience:

  • Teaching/Drama: 1 year (Preferred)
