Job Purpose

Prepares clear, complete, and accurate working plans and detail drawings from rough or detailed sketches or notes by performing the following duties

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Makes final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.

Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, raw materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.

Makes any adjustments or revisions necessary or desired with prior approval of drafting department.

Using computer with appropriate software creates dimensioning lines and letters on drawings as required.

Draws finished designs from sketches.

Uses computer assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software.

Required Skills/Experience

High School Diploma or the equivalent is preferred.

Able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Able to write simple correspondence.

Able to effectively communicate with and present information to and respond to communication from individuals, small group situations, employees of the organization, management, customers, and the general public.

Able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Able to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Able to successfully demonstrate computer aided drafting skills needed in this drafting position.

Desired Skills/Experience

One year certificate from college or technical school; or nine to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Basic understanding of B/P reading

Basic understanding GD&T

Basic understanding of manufacturing/machining principles
