Rhodes Collar is searching for the right person to join our expanding Dog Training Team. Experience in dog training, handling, and reading, particularly in the group dynamic are essential to your success in this position. Our "outward bound" style training takes place in town, in the woods, and at the beach throughout the day. Candidate must be able to work alone and in a group, be active outside in all types of weather and possess a genuine love and concern for dogs. Hours are generally from 7:45-1:15 Monday through Friday, to start, with the potential for additional hours on work supporting the business. Day School For Dogs Trainer understands and puts into practice positive reinforcement training. Is organized, enthusiastic about PRT training and The Rhodes Collar Way © method for teaching puppies and dogs how to navigate successfully and without stress husbandry skills needed for veterinarian and grooming visits, within the construct of participatory family life and as community citizens and on set for movies and TV.

Must work well as a team member and under the direction of the Manager to ensure dogs are properly cared for, trained, exercised, and supervised. Responsible for monitoring the dogs' overall activities and ensuring dogs work well together to maintain safety and the integrity of training within our philosophy. Responsible for ensuring standards of cleanliness and organization are maintained. This job is mentally and physically active as activities include excessive exercise, hiking, dog management, standing bending, and moving around, the ability to lift 50 pounds, cleaning spaces and vehicles.

Examples of Duties:

· Hike & Train dogs in a safe and effective manner for the dogs, staff, other animals, and general public

· Daily training includes:

· Target (touch)

· Station (place)

· Sit, down, stay, walk without pulling on leash, greet politely

· Movie dog behaviors

· Meeting with clients at the start and finish of each day communicating in a manner compatible with the philosophy of Rhodes Collar

· Documenting client instructions to be shared with TEAM

· Supervising dogs throughout the day during training and exercising, resting, and other activities at Day School For Dogs

· Maintaining a sanitary environment wherever dogs are

· Performing routine housekeeping tasks such as laundry, dishwashing, sweeping, mopping

· Ensuring that all equipment, including toys, is clean and well-maintained

· Cleaning all aspects and areas of office

· Maintaining and cleaning watering dog bowls throughout day and prior to end of shift

· Maintaining daily information on dog behavior, activities and well-being

· Bathing dogs

· Communicating dog status at end of shift

· Photographing dogs for and writing report cards

· Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

· 1-year minimum experience in training dogs and puppies using positive reinforcement training

· LOVE dogs

· LOVE dog training

· Positive attitude, reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented with a great work ethic

· Excellent written and verbal communication

· Computer and social media savvy

· Reliable transportation and willingness to use your vehicle

· Work with dogs of a variety of sizes, personalities, and play styles

· Read and respond proactively to dog body language always using PRT

· Anticipate if problems between dogs may occur and prevent them using PRT

· Track details regarding individual dogs

· Remain calm and effective in stressful situations

· Understand and communicate effectively about all the services provided by Rhodes Collar

· Communicate items needing purchase, replacement or repair;

· Communicate challenges and questions that need attention to management as soon as possible

· Maintain required attendance level and adherence to work schedule

· Follow appropriate safety procedures

· Be on your feet for duration of shift

· Lift up to 50 lbs

· Run/move/react quickly

· Be detail oriented and organized

· Provide excellent customer service

· Take on a flexible schedule

· Work independently as well as part of a team environment

Education/Experience:

Combination of education and experience to demonstrate the abilities and duties listed above.

Experience:

  • Working knowledge of dog and puppy behavior using PRT
  • Prior experience working with dogs and puppies in groups using PRT
  • CPDTA certified preferred
  • IAABC certified preferred
  • Record of excellent customer service experience.
