POSITION: Part Time Dog Adoption Kennel Attendant

REPORTS TO: Adoption & Customer Service Manager

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

SCOPE OF POSITION: Part Time – Thursday – Monday: 8am-5pm, Sunday 8am-4pm

SALARY: Starting at $12-15/hr. based on experience.

JOB SUMMARY: The Dog Adoption Kennel Technician at the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast (HSTC) is an important part of the Adoptions team. The primary job function of the Dog Adoption Kennel Technician is to maintain the health and welfare of the dogs while also supporting adoption efforts. To achieve this, cleaning and sanitizing kennels, providing animal nutrition, and counseling potential adopters are the essential responsibilities of this position. The Dog Adoption Kennel Technician also ensures that the basic needs of our shelter pets are met, while providing humane handling and care to the animals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Greets visitors and potential adopters.
• Introduces eligible adopters to animals.
• Answers questions about HSTC policies and procedures and the animals in the shelters’ care.
• Counsels adopters to assure appropriate animal placement.
• Disseminates animal care information to visitors and adopters.
• Provides that all animals nutrition, housing and basic needs are met as directed.Involved in ongoing education in the field of animal care and customer service.
• Assist in maintaining a safe and sanitary facility and provides humane handling and care for all shelter animals.
• Assures animals receive proper food and water and that all dishes are sanitary.Continually inspects adoption areas and spot cleans cages and runs when needed.Restocking shelter or office supplies and needed.
• Performs other duties assigned or as the situation dictates.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Possesses computer skills, particularly Outlook and Word. Prior knowledge of PetPoint computer system preferred.
• Must have the ability to communicate with a variety of people and work independently.
• Knowledge of safe work habits and routine sanitation methods.
• Skilled in animal restraint and handling techniques.
• Knowledge of basic custodial and remedial care of dogs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Prior customer service experience and knowledge of animals preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· The functions of this job require standing for extended periods of time.

· Substantial lifting is necessary at times.

· Must be able to stoop, bend, and lift overhead on a frequent basis.

· Must be able to control any personal allergic reactions to animals.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Exposure to high noise levels, odors, animal bites and scratches, diseases transferable between animals and humans, cleaning agents, insect/parasite controlling chemicals, slippery floors, dust, animal dander and excreta, injured animals, euthanasia, and staff and customer emotional extremes.
• Works in both indoor and outdoor exposures.
