JOB DESCRIPTION

The Director of Summer School and Extended Learning (elementary) promotes academic achievement by managing high-quality educational opportunities beyond the traditional school day including but not limited to summer, school breaks, before/after school, and weekends.

The position will work under the administrative direction of the Chief Academic Officer with latitude for the exercise of independent judgment. Work is reviewed for the quality, availability, and impact of extended instructional offerings, as well as in support of district TAP Goals, such as graduation rates, student achievement, and student attendance.

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  • Professional experience in education and managing complex cross-functional projects
  • 3-5 years K-12 teaching or administrative experience
  • Experience with extracurricular programming or school community partnerships preferred
  • Experience in school building level or academic administration preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university; Master's Degree (preferred)
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES
  • Work Priorities:
    • Maximizes high-quality out of school (OST) learning opportunities through the ongoing generation and implementation of high-quality summer, school breaks, before/ afterschool, and weekend programs
    • Works in close collaboration with school leaders, department leaders, and community partners to align student and family supports, registration, and attendance for all extended learning opportunities
    • Coordinate all academic aspects of extended learning opportunities, including but not limited to: staffing plans, curricular materials, assessment plans, and professional development
    • Progress monitor extended learning programs through data tracking of attendance and student achievement
    • Share program data with all stakeholders (ie. district, school, families, community partners)
  • Cross-functional coordination:
    • Coordinate meetings and information sharing with FACE and other PPSD and RIDE departments
    • Collaborate with the Office of Specialized Instruction for Extended School Year (ESY)
    • Coordinate the professional development for teachers and leaders with T & L and strategic partners
    • Collaborate with the Office of Multilingual Learners for MLL student extended learning opportunities
  • Operational aspects:
    • Ensures that attendance, assessment, and any other relevant data is collected and reported on a daily basis during the program attendance dates
    • Coordinates and collaborates with all departments required for the successful implementation of summer learning and other extended learning departments including academics, transportation, data, human resources etc.
    • Create and manage work plans for K-8 program
    • Work with registration department to create parent forms for registration and transportation
    • Collaborate with school leaders and executive directors on the recruitment plan of students and ensure they meet registration deadlines
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS
  • Proven ability to plan and prioritize multiple cross-functional projects while being adaptable in a constantly changing environment
  • Ability to work across schools-based teams to connect with district teams and community partners
  • Focus on support for students and families with an ability to rally others around that vision
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with participants of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to observe and measure outcomes of the individual or group, to manage data gathering, and to analyze and respond to data
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of PPSD and the relevance of job functions to that mission and vision
  • Ability to analyze data to make informed program decisions including appropriate student placements
  • Ability to project manage multiple learning opportunities/experiences
  • Bilingual preferred
