The Director of Seed is responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring our overall planning and procurement and transportation strategies for Helena's seed to ensure customer and business unit expectations are met. This position will develop and execute strategic plans to improve productivity, quality and efficiency of supply chain operations while working with local resources at the business unit level to execute day to day requisitions and purchase orders related to Helena's seed products.


The employee's primary duty must be the performance of office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of Helena or Helena's customers. This also includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgement with respect to matters of significance.


What your day may look like

  • Evaluates commodity price changes and supply based on key financial, operational and strategic goals to execute best buying opportunities for seed products.
  • Negotiates cash discounts, volume purchasing discounts, advance purchasing discounts with emphasis on cost reductions for seed products.
  • Works with other corporate departments to ensure accurate forecasting, inventory planning and inventory quality for seed products.
  • Provides recommendations on purchasing strategies for seed product lines that align with corporate economic strategies and objectives.
  • Recommends major purchases of seed products based on anticipated changes in prices or unusual availability situations.
  • Develops and provides reports to executive leadership with key performance metrics including cost per unit by category, supplier, etc. for seed products.
  • Communicates material positive and negative purchasing financial impacts to key leadership team members and monitors expiring contracts to determine next steps for seed products.
  • Oversees administration of contracts with suppliers to ensure all purchasing documents are completed properly and the terms and conditions of purchases are appropriate for seed products
  • Collaborates and assists with development of overall budget for all purchasing and supplier related activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by leader.
  • Reliable and regular attendance is expected.

Education and experience needed for this position

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Five years of purchasing experience or related field is required.
  • Leadership experience is required.
  • A combination of education and work experience will be considered.

The work environment for this position is that of a typical office environment where the noise level is mostly quiet. This position requires you to use your hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, stand and sit. You may be occasionally required to lift or move up to 10 pounds.
